American Tourister DeLite Carry-On Spinner $8 + Delivery ($10.07 to Melb) @ COTD

900
SAVE10orTHANKYOU

I have been searching a cheap spinner suitcase and came across this at Catch of the Day. I went to the COTD site did a search for luggage & the American Tourister bag was one of the options, clicked on it to have a look then added to my cart.
After I added it $11.99 is deducted from the price used the coupon code SAVE10 and the price reduced by another $10, so the total for the suitcase was $8. For me, in Melbourne's south-east suburbs the delivery is $10.07. In total the suitcase with delivery is $18.07. I was not signed into my account when I applied the code. I've decided not to buy as the case is a bit small for me, but thought others might enjoy.

Good price, but 3.6 kg is quite a lot.

    • Lol at them trying to put 'lite' or light at all for this.

    • Thanks for this reply. I have full sized luggage that weighs less then this.

Slow clap for the grammar Nazi…

    • With Jetstar's 7kg limit that only leaves 3.4kg for your items…

      • Check in with a near empty bag.. wear all your clothes, all 30 layers. After you check-in strip down and load up your bag.

        • But do that at the risk of turning into a large person who must pay for two adjacent seats.

  • +3

7kg limit for carry on on jetstar. So half of it is gone with the case. My 71cm case is 3.4kg. This one is 53cm and same weight

    • +17

One only needs a black trash bag @ 50grams for carry on baggage on Jetstar.

    • My is 81cm case is 3.5kg;)

    • What brands are yours? I'm looking for a cabin case with spin wheels
I've got this for car travel looks decent but seems bigger than a carry on

  • +3

3.6kg for carry on is rubbish. More than half standard allowance of 7kg.

  • +3

Showing $29.95 Plus Delivery for me

  • +11

I bought one from Groupon 2 months ago. I took it with Jetstar last week and got rejected to take it on board…End up I paid $50 for it.

  • +2

But they say, Super lightweight, at approx. 3.63kg! lol

  • +2

Was debating whether to get this but it is too heavy :(. Currently using my freebie Johnny Walker wheely bag from the duty free purchase of two bottles of black label.

Price is $29.95 but when you add it to your cart you get an automatic discount of $11.95. Plus you add the THANKYOU code and it drops to ~$18 delivered to Melbourne.

  • +2

i get "Your account is not eligible to use this coupon" using the code

  • Superb! Ordered one, even though it would not accept SAVE10 and I already used THANKYOU yesterday.

  • +1

Yeah I don't know how they think 3.6 kg is 'super lightweight'

  • for travelling via car is ok but 3.6kg is way too heavy! considering i only take carry on for up to 10 days asia trips! and i can still come home with a little shopping.

3.6kg would be abt my max for a large check in luggage!

Some former posts suggest the "SAVE10" code sometimes works for spends under $75, while others suggest that the total before shipping needs to be >$75 before "SAVE10" will work.
Can anyone shed light on this; has anyone successfully used "SAVE10" for anything recently, where the total was under $75? And is it a "once per account" code?

    • I've used the save10 code as well as the thankyou for this suitcase. Ended up paying $6.95 inc delivery.

    3.63kg is heavy, not light for a carry-on !!

This takes over half the carry on allowance for most airlines. ie Singapore Airlines economy class carry on allowance is 7kg.

To give a comparison, my carry-on case is 1.9kg and was nothing special.

  • I've got a 55cm that is 2.2kg which I think is the limit after I put my laptop in. Always wanted to find a light luggage case but I think I gotta move to a backpack now.

    • I always use a backpack and so have never been asked to check how heavy it is. I would say i carry about 11kg usually with my laptop and never have trouble getting onboard.

      • Strange, once I've seen this young guy forced to check-in his backback because it was too heavy. This was last year at Cairns airport for international.

        • I was asked at the check-in counter in Japan to weight my backpack & carry on when flying back to BNE with Jetstar.
At first a friend and I were going to weight our stuff together, both of us have backpack & carry on each. But she refused.
My stuff is 9kg & my friend 11kg.

She even asked to move some stuff to other bags to balance it out!! (10kg limit per person)

I think Jetstar is quite grasping.

Backpack doesn't equal carte blanche. Often they weigh for protocol. Often the scales are BS, but they let you through (PR?). Full fare/long distance/discounted. .. there's not always a pattern.
I've done 35 day S.E.Asia tours with a school sized backpack, splitting the seams on the way back, 13.5KG with two bottles of duty free inside. No probs. I've also been burned trying anything remotely like that in Heathrow/similar. Know the game. 5Kg Laptop or handbag is allowed additional to carry-on.

I moved to Ireland (through Heathrow) with 3 layers of clothes, a laptop in my carry-on, as I had 4 desktop external HDDs, Projector & all related cables/power. No probs. But RyanAir make Tiger seem sweet. I just buy ectra straight-up.

Have also tried playing the multiple "just food & stuff" bags there before "ONE carry-on permitted!" Screamed to all by security. "We don't care, jam it in, ONE bag for screening" enforced.

Even if the airline allows, the airport may not. I could go on & on & on.

  • Cheap isn't always best.

    • Probably a well made bag, just not worth having with the carry-on weight restrictions in place on most airlines. If you travel light, or are on short trips this could make a good checked bag.

Just letting everyone know that American Tourister luggage cases are rebadged Samsonites. They are usually a few generations older and you'll see the Samsonite logo when you remove the lining on one of the tags.

  • itkeepsshowing 29 bucks when i add it to thecart

  • +1

Try the search tool for luggage, then find the bag & add it to cart. I tried just adding it from the link & sometimes the discount didn't show up, but hopefully it will if you try again.

The SAVE10 coupon code was tacked onto an eatnow email I got a couple of week ago. The email went to all the email addresses I have so I thought it was generic. My apologies if it's not working for some.

I'm a mature aged uni student & I have to travel to regional Queensland for residential schools for 2 days at a time throughout the year which often don't offer light/saver fares. So, I didn't even register the weight issue. Sorry.

I thought it would be a good size for a weekender if someone wants to stay in their capital city & not require air travel. Or, it might be useful for people who give seminars & need to travel to different offices with booklets & materials etc.

Lastly, thank-you so much to the few people who used my referral link I really, really appreciate it.

This is ideal for my Missus, who will use it on trains or cars, not aircraft. Well pleased at $28.07 including delivery. Many thanks. By the way, American Tourister is a brand owned by Samsonite.

    • Yea its Samsonite's budget range. Quality isn't the same though. Sadly it is most likely a brand that they acquired then made it their budget range.

  • Isn't this like… Too small for a luggage? Looking at the screenshot, half of the space is filled up by shoes… And the case itself is over 3kgs…

Just go with a backpack, pack more?

  • It seems to be the same one selling at Topbuy for $49.95 + shipping
    http://www.topbuy.com.au/american-tourister-delite-carry-on-…

Also, you can use the vacuum travel roll-up storage bags to pack more in.

    • Catch have had these for months. The weight is high, but good brand. Usually 5 year warranty from other store.

  • +1

    Is it bulletproof or something?

  • Thanks op.
I have two AT large luggage bags, they are good quality same as Samsonite.
This one is good for public transport and driving, not for flights definitely..

  • I use a fancy 'garbage bag' 82cm @ 2.4kg for check in

    http://www.bagworld.com.au/shop/detail/tatonka-barrel-bag-ba…

  • +4

this is the lightest: 1.4kg for this 56cm case: http://www.strandbags.com.au/luggage/it-worlds-lightest-56cm…

    • Do you own that one Logical? It's hard to imagine the quality is there at that price/weight.

      • I don't own this one, however IT is a good brand which offers 10yr warranty. As carry on I doubt that it would get torn in anyway as it won't get thrown around or caught in a bag carousel. The handle appears quite wide and comfortable and big wheels will make it quite stable too.

        • -1

          But its not a bargain.

        • +1

it is currently reduced by nearly $80! when do you call it a bargain?

    • There is one similar called Z-Frame which weighs 1.98kgs, on sale at target from $49(was from $99). I have one, they are quite durable and strong, I guess the same would apply here for the IT brand.

    • +1

I have this bag, just bought it on Saturday.

Been looking for one for ages, and grabbed it while it was on special. Been looking for some time now, waiting for a reduced price.

The 4 wheel spinner same size is 1.9kgs, but I wanted the lighter model. Don't want half my baggage allowance gone in the case alone.

I also have another carryon wheelie bag weighing 1.6kg that I got at a John Little sale in Singapore a few years ago. Paid just $18 for it, and it still looks as good as the day I bought it.

I am forcing myself to travel much lighter these days for flexibility and also because I have back problems. No longer want to drag heavy bags around.

  • Thanks OP! I've been after something like this, for uni - 2hr away each way. Hurt myself so I can't carry a bag, hence the suitcase. The only issue is people keep tripping over it!

  • I cant find anywhere where I can apply the coupon? I must be blinds - just found the "Have a coupon code?" text

    • it is a link, click on it

  • If this is used for hand luggage only, the case itself takes half of the weight allowance. It isn't what I'd call lightweight.

Not too keen to do overseas travel with a bag that has "American Tourist" scrawled across it.. ;-)

    • world reads it as American Terrorist..

    • +2

Yes, very good point. We used to be much safer saying, 'Australian', but that also sadly endangers us now.

  • I will never by anything buy anything by American Tourister again, its rubbish. Bought there hard shell suitcase for my honeymoon, 5 flights into 7 flights world trip and both the handles were pulled off in transit. Turns out they are held on by a flimsy plastic cover and once that goes the handles come straight off.

    • Dont worry Angel when we both go for Honeymoon i will get good one.

    • Think positively! Your light bag just got lighter!

  • +1

    3.63kg is superlight??????????

    How does that work?

I just bought a new carry on bag yesterday at Strandbags. Almost the same dimensions as this one, and only weighs 1.4kg!!

So I guess 1.4kg is supersupersupersuper light!

However - I paid more than $18 for it, but it was 40% off RRP, and was the cheapest I have seen it in the time I have been looking for this specific bag.

  • I use a burlap sack, true OB style.

  • Arrived today. Thoroughly pleased.

  • +1

I got mine today too. At the first glance, it seems to be a great suitcase!
The material is quite good and it's not heavy at all (it's definitely not the lightest but light enough given the price tag)

At a second look, something doesn't seem to be too right - the suitcase seems to be a bit larger than the typical suitcases for hand carry's. I got it measured and I realised:
    59cm x 29cm x 25cm - INCLUDING the wheels

Then I did a check on major airline's dimensions limit
    Qantas/Singapore airlines: 1 x 115cm (45in) bag
    Cathay Pacific: 36 x 23 x 56cm (adding up to 115cm - which is similar to QF/SQ)

Doesn't seem like it would fit for hand carry if I fly these airlines…

Southwest Airlines seem to be the only exception : 10 x 16 x 24 inches

I guess I can only use this suitcase for short trips when checked-in baggages are included in my airfare

  • My wife is delighted with hers, which might never see an airplane. She took it today for a 3-day stay at her daughter's place. Many say it is a bit too heavy for flights. But judging by your method of calculating dimensions, 59+29+25=113 so I suppose it still qualifies. I managed to order a second one just before they sold out, and at the very last minute remembered to use the BDAY code. So that was $20.07 including shipping from Melbourne to Sydney. Nobody in Strandbags would believe it!

  • I ended up buying this case after I looked at the ones at Target & Kmart which turned out to be smaller. It arrived today & I love it. It's the perfect size for my needs. Very sturdy & glides around with ease. So glad I changed my mind. Pity they sold out as my Mum wants one now.

  • Happy with this one as well. It is obviously the older material that makes it heavy. At this weight its probably never going to travel as hand luggage though. Good size when extended.

  • My second one arrived a few days ago. Terrific deal - thanks again to the OP.
