Will Prices Fall for July School Holidays for Perth to Bali?

Jetstar has its Christmas / Boxing Day sales on at the moment, and prices for the easter school holidays in 2015 have dropped a fair bit compared to their previous standard prices. However, I am looking at the July school holiday period - specifically July 10th to the 14th to Bali flying from Perth. My brother is getting married on the 12th, and as a family the dates listed are best suited for the large group (9 adults 1 child) of us traveling over together. I am wondering if anyone knows if Jetstar may discount in the near future any flights over this school holiday period like they have done for the easter school holidays? At the moment the flights we are looking at are around $470 return (no checked in luggage), yet the easter break ones on special have dropped to around half this price.

Unfortunately we are tied down to traveling on those dates due to different peoples work holidays and the date of the wedding, so the present sales for July 28th onwards aren't much use. Am I better booking now and securing the current prices, or is there any chance that they may come down - or do I run the risk of the prices actually increasing?

Many thanks in advance for any useful info :)

I haven't look at any prices for your specific dates. But the rule of thumb I take when booking for school holidays is to book asap. Prices are only going to go up as more and more people start to lock in their holiday plans. Also any sales that may occur have a good chance of listing those dates blackout dates.

If you are happy witht the current prices, the lock it in. Also ask yourself, am I willing to pay $xxx more if the prices go up, especially if I MUST travel on those dates. It's one thing to be able to walk away and not travel if prices go up, but if you have to travel then that is a different story.

  • Well I don't have a crystal ball so I can only speculate…

In general the Australian airlines don't have sale fares for travel during school holidays, but that is mostly for domestic flights, and AirAsia also flies this route.

In general the price of flights increases as the planes fill up, and of course the flights during holidays will fill up even faster as that's when everyone wants to fly.

Perhaps you can keep an eye on prices over the next month and see if there's any movement. If you select the right flights now apparently you can travel for $415 return (no bags):

I would guess that the prices on direct flights on these specific dates will only go up from here, unless the airlines add additional seats/flights or a new airline starts flying this route.

  • I agree with you John, most sales do not usually cover school holidays - i was surprised to see the current Jetstar sale covering the easter school holidays. Made me wonder if it happen more often than I realised, but I dont think sales usually cover school holidays. Great deal if you are traveling in those school holidays.

And I also agree Inherentchoice, prices would go up as seats fill, supply and demand theory. That flight you listed was the same date, but we were looking at paying the extra $40 for the later flight rather than flying back at 2.30am.

Think I might book and be done with it, I could personally wear the cost for myself and 2 kids coming, but since I am booking for others then i don't want to take the risk of prices going up more and more over time.

I'm pretty sure that July school holidays are more in demand so they may have no specials at all over that period. Thx guys for your advice
