  • Threadcount smells like BS to me. Let me see:

"In a quality product, the incremental comfort value of thread counts over 300 is very little. A 300 thread count can feel far superior to a 1000 thread count. Thread count has become a simple metric used by marketing people to capture interest and impress with high numbers. The problem with mass produced high thread count sheets is that to keep the price down, important elements of quality must be sacrificed, meaning in the end the customer gets a product with an impressive thread count but that probably feels no better (or even worse) than something with a lower thread count."

Feels different yes, absolutely for me anyway as I am a sensitive petal. But a hell of a lot more durable 1,000TC V's 300TC

The comfort level is not really noticeable for me but the higher TC does seem to wear much better.

        • Is TC a good measure of wear rate? I hate thin sheets and sheets that wear out quickly which is why I have Actil Commercial which probably has a TC of 160- never bothered to find out- and they feel good- solid.

          Just checked- 150

Theory is the peak of quality and tc is around 400 for percale, and 600 for sateen, no not satin. Thats not to say a 400tc percale will be nice, because there is far more at play than tc, ie: type of weave, quality of threads etc.

    • Oh man. You win at ozbargain and I get overpriced sheets. Boo to me.

I'm inclined to think the ops price isn't too bad - 1000tc queen is 45-50 usually - but at a cotton/poly blend. These are listed as 100% cotton which attracts a premium. Whether this gives better wear or comfort idk - but it explains at least part of the price difference. Most of those sets on deals direct are poly cotton blends (I only looked into a few).

EDIT catch of the day has queen sets for 40-45 plus delivery fairly often in a few colors. $48.34 shipped to Brisbane for queen grey 1000tc 80/20 cotton/poly. Less 10 or 8 bucks with thankyou or bday. I'm tempted.

The deals direct sheets are a 70/30 cotton polyester blend. The target ones seem to be pure cotton, at least they don't list any other materials aside from cotton.

      • Beat me to it - had this page open on tablet and didn't refresh before replying haha :(

  • I am finally going to have nice sheets! Thanks!

I also purchased two pillows from here for $25 delivered. http://www.manchestermadness.com.au/tontine-simply-living-me…

  • thread count, one of the most abused metrics of modern times…

  • That's average price for me from my suppliers, although mine are Egyptian cotton…
