Had purchased one before Christmas as a gift. Got a price guarantee that i'd get the difference if it fell post Christmas. They are price matching JB's $238.
Should be a JB deal, but I can't change the domain from officeworks to JB in this edit

  • What drives are in these things?

  • What's so special about WD My Cloud 4TB? A 3TB external hard drive (WD elements) is $129 RRP at OfficeWorks. $100 for another 1TB… Not sure it is a good buy unless you really want the hardware encryption or the included software.

    • +1

Elements is a standard external hard drive only and my cloud is actually a network storage that is why it is more expensive.

In case you don't now what a network drive is, you can connect it to your network via wifi/ Ethernet cable and anyone in your network can access to it making it a "cloud" storage.

      • Most routers have a usb 3.0 or 2.0 port where you can just plug in the external hd.

        • Those things are horrendously slow even on the most expensive routers

        • @krisspy: Some routers supporting USB3 are okay. Not as fast as this one. This device needs to be connected to a switch or a router.

      • Okay, it is just that in the specs page, OfficeWorks did not list Ethernet port.
I hope the power adaptor for this is not too big.

  • So is this a nas or an external HDD? Would this work as an external Backup HDD for a synology nas?

  • +2

Doesn't the link and image show the WD MyBook instead of MyCloud as said in the title?
In this case, it isn't very cheap.

  • oops my bad. wrong links. Officeworks has the 4tb nas my cloud drive at $268 which can be pricematched against jb's price of $238 getting a 5% discount coming down to $226.10

    Great review here.

Hmm its hard you don't know what your getting with these nas servers. If I had to do it I'd get something Plex compatible.

  • wont it be better to get it off amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-WDBCTL0030HWT-3TB-Personal-Stora…) for $189 + shipping (free if paid with amex card)

    • It would if AUD was as strong as it was last year.

189 USD is about 238 AUD at the moment :(
