Need some decent rechargable 'C' Batteries and a charger...

So just got some sick Nerf guns for Christmas but they take 4 C batteries each! (They looked like AAs on the pack :/ ). Unfortunately it doesn't look like eneloop do C batteries so what does everyone recommend? I need a charger as well, preferably one that can do 4 C batteries at once… I saw Kogan had rechargable C & D batteries. Are they any good? Any other recommendations?

Also, Merry Christmas!

I wonder if it's possible to use lithium based 14500 batteries in these C converters for better output… and better firing range as a result.

      • I have no experience with 14500 batteries, but if they are the same dimensions as AA then yes it would work.

        • They aren't the same voltage. 4x alkaline batteries = 6V, 4x 14500 batteries = 14.4V, more than twice the voltage. Likely to fry whatever you are powering.

    • How long do these last compared to proper C batteries. And is there any difference in voltage or chance of damaging the products??

      • 14500 lithium batteries have much smaller capacities than Ni–MH AA cells but the low capacity is offset by their much higher voltage outputs. Their dimensions are the same.

mAh mainly affects how long the battery lasts, but it does not affect the speed of the motor… speed is determined by voltage. So higher voltage batteries == faster motors == faster dart velocity / or faster rounds per min.

If you google online and watch YT vides on Nerf gun modding, a lot of people replace their NIMH's with lithiums because the increased voltage feed causes the motors to operate much faster.

Lithium batteries have a much higher voltage output, roughly 3.6v which is more than twice of a standard alkaline AA or C size battery (1.2v~1.5v). But the tradeoff for extra power is the extra noise, possibly less accuracy and more frequent gun jams.

        • I think you answered the wrong question.

      • Using AAs instead of C batteries will be fine. I've done it for all sorts of devices for years. I have no idea why they don't just make the devices to take AAs. We even had a baby swing that would swing the baby back and forwards that I ran on 4 AAs instead of D cells and it ran fine. Run time was still really good.

    • Pretty sure the OP has already considered Kogan batteries, but is unsure of their quality. I'd personally say - avoid them.

I'd rather go with Eneloops + C battery converter kits, and Eneloops specials are like a monthly occurance anyway.

  • Aldi sell C-size NiMh batteries (and D-size too), but they only have the same capacity as ordinary AA NiMh batteries. Probably an AA with extra cardboard, to make them the correct diameter. However, their price is reasonable, I think it was $6-$7 for a pack two D cells, can't remember the price of the C-cells. This isn't better than the AA-to-C adators described above, but you can go to Aldi TODAY and get them immediately.

However, if you do buy C-cells or D-cells, few smart battery chargers can take them, as most are designed for AA and AAA batteries only. If you already have a charger, and it won't charge the larger batteries, the AA-to-C adaptors are a better choice.

  • I got some from the DSE shutting down sale and use them with a charge I purchased from Aldi.

Not sure where to get more from.
