  • What's the download size? 50GB?! Far out. What a waste of bandwidth when you can just get 22 or 23 discs from BigW or Target etc.

Edit: Yikes, 108GB for HD. No wonder speeds are slow due to hoggers that just do everything digital. I laugh when they lose their hard drive and have to download it all again.

Just get the physical copy, use it straight away and get the extra features.

And I laugh even harder when people have a house burglary or fire and have to buy all their DVDs again.

      • -1

        And that rarely happens.

Show me this new fangled fireproof, burgle proof hard drive you have mate.

DVDs are the standard default. So you can't really laugh harder.

        Happy downloading.

DVDs are the standard default for cheap people. DVDs should be on their way out; Blu Ray players are cheap, FullHD TVs are cheap. JB has a sale every other day and you get 2 Blu Ray titles for $20 and with all the Blu Ray deals posted here why would you still buy DVDs?

You know what site you're on right?

It's called downloading it again from the source. Most online stores now let you download a second time without having to re-purchase.

        • @dawyndham: Hard drives can and do fail a third time. Five years is a generally accepted minimum on HDD. DVDs will last a lot longer than that and many devices to read them for a generation.

          Happy downloading.

Q: 'Hey can we watch 'movie x'?'
A: 'Sure, no worries, let me just fire up the magical do-dad device and download, it'll just be a minute, or an hour, depends on the Internet speeds right now'….'Oh dang it, iTunes wants to update first, it'll only be another 20minutes or so! I promise!'

        • @adamren:

Yes OzBargain, but I don't assume everyone here is a tightarse else they'd probably still be rocking VHS and a CRT TV… I did mention those things are "cheaper" nowadays, with all the money saved on Eneloops there should be enough to go BluRay now :)

And I'll laugh when you finally realize how horrible Apple is and try to move away but your purchased movies can't be played on anything else.

Exactly. AppleTV and iTunes is crazy.

iTunes is great for those who are in the Apple ecosystem. Just stream as required, but doesn't work for all. Now that I have unlimited data at 90Mbps or better, with two Apple TVs at home, one at work and a smattering of iPads, iPod touches and iPhones, iTunes streaming is fantastic.

As the content is cloud based and I have access to fast broadband at a reasonable price, who needs a hard drive? I do have download as an option for my iDevices and my Macs for offline access as well.

Higher resolution bluray set is cheaper from jb hifi (posted on ozbargain) and includes all extras or needing to deal with the hassle of us iTunes.

    • Bluray version of the set. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176357

    • If you are using an Apple TV, switching between countries is really simple, unlike on iDevices.

You can get 1080p on both, although surround sound would be limited via iTunes i think.

I already have the Bond 50 set on UK Blu-ray, only watched two of the Daniel Craig titles and it seems Quantum of Solice is faulty. While I ponder my remedies, having bought it over a year ago, I wouldn't have this issue with digital copies.

  • Not sure how buying eneloops no matter how cheap is going to somehow pay for a BluRay player.

    Most laptops now play BD.

Calling someone cheap just because they buy DVDs over streaming or digital is weird. I say it's smart not cheap. It's actually cheaper to stream sometimes but it's not as smart as getting your own physical copy.

Sometimes OzB users make me laugh. This one just gave me a confused chuckle.
