Could someone please write an app for this?

Could an OzBargainer with iOS or Android authoring skills please write an app for the OzBargain site. It would make life a lot simpler as I hate web interfaces. Having played a bit with programming I believe it should not take you longer than a day or so. Doesn't have to be fancy or elaborate, just practical.

If you need an enticement I'm sure most of us can chip in a dollar or two each to make it worth your while.

Happy New Year to all!

There are already 3rd party apps on both Play Store and iTunes AppStore that utilise data aggregated from OzBargain. For example OzBargain Free, Australian Bargains! & Big Bargain. None of them are official, as currently there is no "official OzBargain app".

You'll notice that the interface are all pretty bad. The fact is writing an app providing the same functionality as the website is hard.

If you are looking for something simple, maybe use a feed aggregator. Feedly maybe? And then subscribe to an OzBargain feed. You won't be able to do anything — no voting, no commenting, no searching, no reporting, no bookmarking, etc. At least it would be "simple".

    • Yeah, feedly is great. Updates fast enough, all you need. Feeder is also pretty good.

I find the mobile optimised website to pretty decent, what do you want from the app?

  • It really saddens me when Windows Phone get neglected… We are smartphone users too. We now have Candy Crush Saga too. :'(

I am joking btw. There is an app, but I can't seem to log onto OzBargain. I stick to mobile website which works fine for me :)

can you play minesweeper on Windows Phone?

      • You can try real life minesweeper by throwing the phone into the mine field (Safety not guaranteed, though).

Joking aside, I think there was a minesweeper app… I am not too sure. I don't play that much game on the phone.

I'd like someone to write an app that will enable me to hover approximately 6 inches off the ground. It would be just for fun though, as I can't think of many practical applications of hovering…… Other than reaching high shelves or looking over fences.

as I can't think of many practical applications of hovering

Sure you could, you could avoid tripping land mines, avoid stepping on infants, and if it ever rains and floods you could keep your feet dry!

I think the OP has never done any programming work, thinking it is a simple task that lots of people could (but wouldn't) throw a dollar at.

A lot of people do code for the joy and not profit, but asking someone to use their valuable time on Earth to make you something for nix because you don't like web interfaces is a bit precious.

And the world is going web, so you may as well get used to web interfaces.

If OzBargain doesn't have an API (Application Programming Interface) like Facebook, Google etc, writing an app for it would in fact be VERY HARD and a lot harder than a standard app that does not need to aggregate feeds.

Trawling through HTML/XML etc is a pain in the butt programatically (I've done it for Broadband Usage Apps in the past). AND if the site changes ever so slightly you'll probably break the code.

I agree the OP has absolutely no idea. I wouldn't start the job for $1000, let alone $1.

    Then do it your self.
