    thanks for the post ec

    • +7

      No worries. All good.

Should we book an Ozbargain Exclusive Gold Class Cinema for Australia Day Meetup using our vouchers

If you guys are keen, im happy to try and organize it

  • +2

This is not a dupe. The other one was for Village (VIC and TAS). This is for NSW

    • Thanks! Read that just after I made comment.

        • Sorry, I've been sick (man-flu) for the last day or so. Just catching up on things now.

    • Is this only for NSW/Event cinemas? (Or will still work for VIC/Village cinemas paid via MasterPass)

      • -2

there is already the same deal for Village Cinema. Use search function

        • Just so more people see this, the Village cinemas one is not not for gold CLASS only gold GRASS which is a moonlight cinema, it's a beanbag chair and nothing like gold CLASS.

        • +1

          Loving the Christmas cheer…

  • sorry for this noobie questions,

how does it really work? you purchase normal movie online, pay with mastercard, then the next movie you see you are able to upgrade to gold class for free?

    • +3

      Pay with Materpass.

You dont need to be a Mastercard holder or a Bank Account holder @ Bankwest to use Masterpass

      Register Here

      • I am a commbank customer (Without masters account made/activated yet), would there be any reason for me to make one with bankwest over commbank?

        • No.

  • Do you think this will definitely work with Telstra $11.

Do you have to visit the actual cinema on Boxing day? Can you book on Boxing day and go a few days later?

This would be great to get a free Gold Class ticket for $11!

    Merry Christmas everyone

    • +2

When they had the AMEX / Event Cinema Statement Credits, it worked perfectly with Telstra rewards.

The gateway should detect you used Masterpass regardless of the value spent

      • Thanks, $11 is a good price to pay for an adult ticket but $18 is too much for a general adult ticket especially for a true ozbargainer!

      • Just a note the AMEX T&Cs state this

The following transactions are not considered eligible spend for the purposes of the Offer:

        1. Purchasing a merchant's goods through a third party. For example through a department store and/or concession store (e.g. David Jones or Myer), online aggregator (e.g. PayPal) or retailer

Wouldnt Masterpass be considered a third party aggregator

        • well its a payment gateway. Events probably already use a NAB or Comm Bank gateway to process the payment. I dont see Masterpass to be any different . It will still show as paid to event cinema on your credit card statement

    • +1

You can't book for Boxing day with Telstra offer since it is a public holiday but you can book in advanced on Boxing Day.

  • If you use a movie voucher and just pay for the booking fee, does that still qualify as an eligible transaction and enable you to get the Gold Class ticket?

    • +1

technically it should. As the promo is from Masterpass, not event cinema.

The gateway would have to detect you used Masterpass @ Event Cinema checkout regardless of the amount spent and automatically qualify you for the bonus.

      • Agree. Only one Gold class pass per account, right?
Now do you think it would work if you sign up to multiple MasterPass accounts using different email/card combinations?

        • +1

          Why not !!

        • +2

          @easternculture:
Just read "One free Gold Class Voucher for every online transaction". So that means you don't need to set up multiple MasterPass accounts, right? Just 2 separate bookings using vouchers and pay the 2 x $1.10 booking fee in 2 separate transactions, and then you got 2 Gold Class tickets for $2.20!

  • One free Gold Class Voucher for every online transaction

Is there a limit of free Gold Class vouchers per MasterPass account? i.e making multiple transactions using one MasterPass account.

    • +1

I am not sure as well, can anyone clarify that multiple transactions using one MasterPass account will mean you will get multiple Gold Class passes?

  • damn my bank is not listed with masterpass

    • +2

As i mentioned, You can use Bankwest.

You DONT need to be a Customer with them.

And you can use any method of payment via CC

  • Brilliant,

  • Has any one been to the Gold class in Paramatta? The seats are filthy. The Red is almost black from the dirt and grime. Does any one know if the Burwood /Top Ryde/ Macquarie Gold class is any better?

    • Burwood is no different to your description the last I went there a year ago. Would assume it's still the same.

    • I've been to all three (but normal seats). TopRyde > Parra > Bur. By far the worst was Bur and haven't been there since. The extra drive for me was worth the comfy seats from TR. They are plush compared to Bur which are thin and uncomfy.

    • Macquarie GC is top notch

    • Top Ryde and Mac are newer so go there

always bring a wet wipe with you

  • All right so I made two separate transactions for The Hobbit on Friday, let's see if this works!

    • +2

I think it will only work if you make your booking on 26th december. Don't think it will work for anytime before or after this time

    • +1

You can still cancel the tickets and get a refund. Call the involved cinema and request a refund for an unexpected event

      • Oh, I thought when you said 'Advanced Tickets' you meant booking in advance. God I'm an idgit hahaha

  • I'm having trouble signing up to masterpass, does it matter if I register a visa debit with it? Or does it need to be a visa credit card?

    Thanks.

  • Love your work bro..

  • +1

I think this should work with AMEX credit statement, $40 spend for $10 credit, if you use your AMEX card as a funding source your Bankwest MasterPass account!

  • So I can just simply book 5 tickets for family for any random movie (doesnt matter which?), then use the free gold tickets to book the hobbit right?

    • yes, as long as each ticket is a single transactions (total 5 transactions)

    • Not sure as Hobbit in gold class currently have NFT(No free ticket) tag. SO not sure if this free gold class ticket will be valid for Hobbit or not. Can anyone confirm?

  • +1

Kinda shit that Brisbane can use it for Gold Class and Melbourne etc can only get a gold GRASS ticket which is for the moonlight cinemas :(

No where near the same as gold class.

  • I'm still unsure how this works. When we book a movie don't we pay for the ticket along with the booking fee? From what i'm reading I can book a regular ticket and only pay the booking fee and then rebook with the subsequent free gold class voucher. How do we pay only the booking fee?

    • +2

Basically the offer is if you pay for something on Event cinemas website on boxing day with Masterpass they will send you a Gold class ticket voucher for free which you can use for your next booking.

In worst case you will be paying full price for a regular ticket and will get a Gold class ticket for free for your next booking. To get the max out of this deal you can buy your ticket through Telstra thanks (if you are a Telstra customer) and pay for it with Masterpass.

If you are not a Telstra customer you can always buy the $12 vouchers at the Event cinemas and book your ticket online. You will be paying the $1 booking fee using Masterpass in this case which makes the ticket price $13 which isn't a bad price to get a free Gold class ticket voucher.

      • if youre not a telstra customer, buy a $2 sim card

  • +1

I dont understand how this offer works? Can you explain it properly with the steps

    • -1

      this would help alot

  • Nice, I still have a couple of free Event Cinemas movie vouchers from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/170938

I love Ozbargain! Thanks, OP! :-)

  • +2

if you already cba use this link to register

    https://www.commbank.com.au/personal/credit-cards/commbank-c…

Had to google for ages. The masterpass portal doesn't work.

    • +1

You can also use NAB or Bendigo in addition to Bankwest or Commonwealth bank. Just click on the pop-down menu to select your bank: https://www1.mastercard.com.au/content/moments/australia/en/…

Annoying that Westpac Au is not on the list as Westpac NZ already has Masterpass.

      • +1

So what happens after you select your bank? i can't get it to work on chrome or IE

    • +1

It seems CBA only allows you to link CBA cards whereas NAB allows you to link any cards.

      • thats why he said IF YOU ALREADY CBA

  • For those with Entertainment books, Event cinema e-tickets are $12.20 each although you have to buy a minimum of 4. Still better than paying full price.

  • +2

It says I need an invitation code to apply for masterpass. Also their website is horrible - the worst I've visited to date! So many bugs!

  • Awesome deal

  • +3

Linked my anz amex and then 10 mins later ANZ suspended my card due to fraudulent activity (31c transaction from USA)…coincidence?

    • +1

I did the same and five minutes later received a call from ANZ in which the guy asked whether I had just used the card in an US website. I said I had just registered with MasterPass via an Australia bank.

      • yep same thing just happened to me with my ANZ amex card, they said i had a $1.39 transaction from USA just like 5 minutes after i signed up for masterpass and advised i suspend my card due to fraudulent activity.

    • Same thing with me, except it was at 1:40am last night.
Had to call them up this morning to get them to unsuspend my card!

    • +1

Almost like ANZ didn't like us using Bankwest services…

    • +1

anyone using ANZ Amex card registered with MasterPass and successfully purchased the movies on Events website without been blocked?

      • Yes I have ANZ black. No problem

  • I was thinking to buy $10 voucher of gold class food/bar credit… Then when I get my gold class ticket I have some spending money! That'll work, right? (Too late for me to get Telstra sim!)….. Although they have $8.50 small popcorn and drink voucher too…..

  • +1

    Too complicated.. Pass.

  • so, can we use telstra prepaid to get the Telstra Thanks Movies benefit? If not, can we use other ways to get it for $11?
    Cheers

    • Yes, you can use prepaid, but it may not activate immediately, so..

  • No doubt this promo is going to somewhat change the mindset of people attending these gold class showings.

However, putting that to one side, people who have been before:

    • are you made to feel bad if you don't order food / alcohol?
    • can you take in the regular soda and popcorn?

I'm sure you can do whatever you want, but is it weird?

    • my company always takes us to see movies on Gold Class (End of year outing) at Macquarie Centre with food and alcohol paid for. But I went once with the wife, we didnt order anything and it wasnt weird, we just love to see a good movie in a lazyboy sofa :)

  • +1

Seeing as the Gold Class tickets last for 6 months, and you can purchase your ticket through Telstra for $11, that's $11 per Gold Class ticket. So essentially you can stock up on a many of these (depending on how many times you want to go to the movies), as you're awarded a Gold Class ticket per transaction! It's worth it even if you don't go and see the movie you purchased a ticket for, haha as you're saving what, $30 per Gold Class movie?

  • Is this offer applicable for SA event cinemas?

    • Worked for me.

      • Did you got ur free ticket, M still waiting for mine?

        • Yup, got a couple earlier today :-). I would have ordered more if only the darn Masterpass wasn't so buggy.

  • Hi all, I just registered so my card is unverified. Would I still be able to use MasterPass if that's the case? Just wondering because I doubt I'll be able to verify it before the end of tomorrow and make use of this deal.

  • spent 40 minutes to create an account with them (with so many errors and stops…), then the page went totaly white. so I had to start from begining. but now it asks for an invitation code.

    • Same experience…and whenever i try the validation code it says error with account.

  • Worked fine for me, I signed up just now. I used my 28 degrees Mastercard to sign up for NAB Masterpass. Website is a little bit slow but worked ok. Got a validation code via text message immediately and entered it with no issues.

  • For anyone signing up. Don't use BankWest's Masterpass. It has loads of issues. Didn't accept my password when I signed up and not able to reset my password using both options. Think it's getting the account details confused.

When I tried resetting with the secret question, the first time I got a different question to the one I set up. The second time the question wasn't even in English, think maybe Italian or some other foreign language.

I created another one using NAB; so much better.

  • As long as Bankwest honours all the free Gold Class vouchers that one could earn this could be an excellent deal. Though I would only book movies I want to see on the off chance Bankwest only send 1 voucher or alter the T&Cs.

  • Who wants to be the first to buy a ticket?
Let's try and see what the go is Ozbargainers!

    • got 3 . but there is no way they give more than 1 gold class ticket.

      • I think it's 1 per transaction

      • Let us know when your voucher comes through man!

        • I got them in 3 different transactions.

the email confirmation reads:" Thanks for using masterpass, please allow 24-48 hours to receive your complimentary gold class evoucher." also says ticket is non refundable.

  • so did anyone sucessfully purchase the ticket via telstra and can confirm the gold class ticket as freebie?

  • +1

Can confirm that it works with Telstra's thanks movies deal. I went through them twice and got tickets at $8.60 each on the 7th of January. Got an email with the ticket and at the bottom of the email says thanks for using Masterpass please allow 24-48 hours to receive your Gold class ticket. Unlikely that I will be able to use the purchased tickets tho but still a good deal.
