$0 a month minimum spend post paid mobile plans from Rabbit

40

Look for the Basic Bunny mobile plan on their site.

(You can grab a bunch at $0 a month, and hang onto them in case cheaper plans from others are no longer available in the future)

Details:

  • Post paid
  • $0 minimum spend
  • 28c/30 sec or 10c/30 sec to Rabbit mobiles<dl>

This plan is especially good for:

  • people who don't tend to make calls (eg your parents, possibly yourself)
  • seldom use mobiles (eg for when your relatives drop by from overseas)
  • possibly it's cheaper than your own plan

Statements are e-mailed to you. Your credit card will be billed automatically early each month based on previous month's usage

So you need an e-mail account and a credit card before calling them.

You also need patience. Their phone queue … it takes a while to get to their sales people. One of the ways they keep the costs down is by running with a minimum of staff.

(Disclaimers: I've been a Rabbit customer in the past. Not many problems. I have not tried their mobile service. I will know what it's like soon)

NEW WARNING: Cold call marketers, leaving messages on my voice mail, ended up turning my free backup mobile service into a paying service (around 15-58 cents a month). So it might not stay free for you :(

  • Unless all your friends are on Rabbit, iSim's 39c/min prepaid is still cheaper for an infrequent caller. There are advantages of being on post-paid as you don't need to fork out a small sum of money up front, and credit doesn't run out at inappropriate time, but iSim is still cheaper.

  • That website hurts my eyes.

  • One of the best post-paid deals that ive seen (not that ive been looking hard - im a happy isim customer). No flag-fall, per second billing, no minimum spend. Amateur looking website tho. eek!

  • Rabbit is definitely cheaper for those who make almost no calls. :)

I have a friend who's son bought him a mobile phone. He makes maybe 1 call every few months. Then the next time he rings, he finds out his credit has expired and he has to recharge the sim (which he then has to dig out the instructions for) :) Then he's unhappy that most of the $30 every two months or so is wasted.

I've since told him about cheaper plans but this one looks better for him and his wife.

Actually … if you tell your friends about those new dual sim iPhone clones on DealExtreme, you and your friends could grab free Rabbit sims and use them to call each other … :)

  • Here's another reason to grab a bunch of Bunny Basic Plans.

Say you grab a bunch of Bunny Basics now. You pay $0 a month to hang on to them.

In a few months or a year's time, iSim changes their plans, and by that time, Rabbit no longer offers $0 a month minimum to new customers.

But you are an old customer, so you still have your $0 a month plan.

Then you'd have paid $0 and maybe only a little time on the phone, to increase your options for the future … :)

I wish I'd gotten more $0 a month Virgin mobile numbers back in the day (mine are still on the $0 a month minimum … makes my parent's bills very cheap … )

I'd say that they kept costs down when building that website :P
They previously advertised in the green guide and that was also a very basic advert :)

  • I agree that if you are extremely low usage to a point that your prepaid credit expires everytime — then yes this deal makes much more sense. I am a low usage user but not that extreme :)

  • I called Rabbit after I came across this discussion and didn't have to wait long at all. Their staff are very friendly and informative.
I got a Rabbit sim for my mum because she has the same problem with pre paid services- her credit always expires. She also usually only makes very short calls.. so the no flag fall and per second billing make it a good option for her! :)

  • Amendment: :(

This is not Rabbit's fault, but I now recommend against having a number of backup sim cards with Rabbit.

Voice mail with Rabbit is not free. If people leave messages on your voicemail, it starts to cost you money. Apparently I've had heaps of people from Sydney and Brisbane calling the numbers (the numbers which I have not given to anyone) and have been leaving 1-3 second messages.

The guy at Rabbit said it looks like cold call markerters are unfortunately wasting my money :(

He is filling out the paperwork now to cancel my backup mobiles. The service is pretty good with Rabbit. But unfortunately, I now have to recommend against using Rabbit for backup mobile plans due to the cold caller cost issue.

(On average I'm only paying 15 - 58 cents a month for my backup mobile numbers … I guess it's up to the individual if that is a problem)

    • Can you able to turn off Voice mail service feature if you don't need?

      • not sure … :) … but a good idea if possible
