ZombiU and Assassin's Creed 3 is $10 @ Big W

Not really deal worthy considering they've been on clearance everywhere else for months now, but I figure its worth mentioning for anyone who has recently picked up a Wii U. In my opinion ZombiU is a must play for the system, ignore the critics, half of them were complaining about how the game wasn't a First Person Shooter. I still haven't played anything that uses the Gamepad better then ZombiU does. I haven't played Assassins Creed 3 though, how is that? Worth playing?

  • I personally have a high tolerance and open mind for videogames, and didn't find ZombiU that compelling. The graphics were inexplicably grainy for the Wii-U's hardware and it was far too rigid.

Assassin's Creed 3 is the worst Assassin's Creed game I have played (at least when I played it on xbox360). It is rife with bugs and crashes, as well as starting to rely on microtransactions for better gear.
Exhibit A: Desmond's character model had a tumour on his left side for the entirety of my playthrough. It was obviously a bug, as it clipped through backpacks and clothes.
Exhibit B: I stabbed a (SCRIPTED EVENT) cougar with the hidden blades before I had the hidden blades (INVISIBLADES!) which was obviously a bug.
Exhibit C: None of the characters were able to move their mouths without shutting their eyes outside of cutscenes.

Etc etc. I could go on forever about AC3's bugs.

However, $10 may be the correct buy ins for these games. I know I picked up a $10 Splinter Cell using the same logic. Ubisoft go bargain basement with their games on the Wii-U, huh? $10 Watch Dogs next year then.

I've played through all the AC games to 4… and if those three exhibits are the best you could come up with, then you may have had a more tame experience. I have only just recently finished Black Flag and some of the bugs above still happened then (and this is with all the patches to "fix" most of these), like stabbing animals/anything without actually receiving hidden blades/swords. There are even outfits which don't even have hoods, and I still chuckle when the animation plays to put the invisible hood on.

But yeah, 3 was one of the worst (I would still put it in front of Revelations, but each to their own), but it did have the best lot of side missions… I had much more enjoyment playing through the homestead mission set rather than even the main story. AC3 was mechanically better than previous games, adding in the ship functionality, those horrid TD missions, and much more, but yeah, $10 for a few year old game may still be a turn away for some, even on the Wii U.

      • I had heard AC3 was one of the better games when it came to exploring and side missions, how is the exploring compared to Black Flag? I didn't really enjoy exploring in Black Flag a lot, I've left a lot of the map uncovered cause it just wasn't any fun wondering around in it.

        • There are a bunch of hunting sidemissions, as well as various collectibles scattered around, which ultimately you can use to get better gear. Not that the gear is even remotely necessary with how overpowered you start and how dumb the AI is. "Let's all stand around in a circle and attack him one at a time"

But if you like hunting bears and cougars, it's not that bad. And upgrading a settlement is always great fun.

But if you didn't like Black Flag, you're not going to like AC3 as it does almost everything worse. At least you don't play Mr Nameless Faceless outside of the Animus in Assassin's Creed 3. So it keeps its points for that.

I mean for $10 for a console game, it's worth it even if it's not all that great. I just like expanding my collection :3

        • I ended up doing most of the side missions in Black Flag and none of them were particularly interesting, where AC3's side missions were the stand out from that game. The other side stuff to do was slightly more interesting, definitely more than picking up Animus fragments (which I still have no idea what they are meant to do?), but not anything mind boggling. Map wise was structured closer to AC1, where there were cities (which was lacking the verticality of the older AC games) in their own map location, and one large forest area called the Frontier, where a majority of the hunting/exploring occurred. It was nice to have it change in appearance depending on the month (aka snow or sunny), but trekking through the snow was slow, and made travel a pain, especially over long distances.

I would recommend AC3 just for the side/homestead missions, which involved the personality of creating a small village and knowing the members, even becoming a wingman at one stage, and some hilarious tidbits if you had the patience (especially one which was a nod to previous games). It was just a shame that the main character wasn't memorable and a majority of people most likely missed out on this side content when playing through the game… as mentioned before, I still think that it was some of the best side missions in an Assassins Creed game, and possibly up there on the list of best non-core content in any game…

@GoldPhoenix0: Black Flag is an infinitely better game. 3 was terrorballs.
