My current contract runs up on the 2nd January but I can leave or upgrade now. In everyone's experience, am I better off getting a new contract before Christmas or is it possible that better phones will become available on cheaper plans in the January sales. Or, is there no difference?
Thanks!
Depends what you're paying now?
Tbh it's never worth it really to pay contract plan rates when out of a contract. Most people sign a contract and pay a slight premium to get a free (or discounted phone bundled in)
What provider are you with? What phone are you looking at? What's your usage like? Would it be cheaper to get an outright phone and downgrade to a cheaper sim only plan?
Heaps of variables.
Personally I try to upgrade 6 months early each contract and it's so far worked twice (tried asking last week at 8 months early, even offered to jump up a plan but was told no but to try again next billing cycle). In that sense, I effectively save paying the balance of the contract and getting a new phone. Rinse and repeat.
^With Optus on the $60 plan and have been with them on a $60 plan for about 5ish years.
