Hubby is wanting to send some 3-packs of rum liquer from Bundaberg to near Toowoomba. What is the best way of doing this please? Australia Post's performance has been pretty poor of late, and I'm thinking a courier, such as E-go, maybe, would be a better option, but am just guessing. Can someone give advice who actually has experience of similar please?

getting gutted like a fish at the xmas dinner would be a bummer.
click and collect and get the recipient to pick up themselves.
… although I suspect this may not apply in your case as you could be buying at the factory and shipping home.Just to mention that delivery of alcohol to a parcel locker is not allowed in case that was under consideration. I ended having to pick up from the PO in that situation.
What items can and cannot be delivered to Parcel Lockers
Items not accepted to Parcel Lockers
You can have any parcel sent to your 24/7 Parcel Locker, except:letters and standard mail that can be delivered to your letterbox
Express Post letters
parcels larger than 39cm x 36cm x 64cm
parcels that are heavier than 16kg
parcels that require proof of identity
parcels that require the recipient's ID to be recorded at delivery
parcels where there is a payment required on delivery
parcels that are damaged or unsuitably packaged
parcels delivered by a courier that has chosen not to deliver to our parcel lockers
parcels containing alcohol
parcels containing perishablesnow that you know that. also know that auspost is known to not follow their own rules, delivery procedures, t&c, etc. they will in most cases do what they please to make it easier for them.
read this if you want to know more.
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2331621The thing is you cannot rely on them not following their rules either. In the worst case you have to be prepared to collect in person.
As an Ozbargainer, I would only do this if.
It was cheaper this way. Price plus postage lower than in Toowoomba
Otherwise find a local store that sells it and have them deliver it. eg Dan Murphy's First Choice etc
Or send them a gift card for a liquor store etc and explain the shipping issue.
Austpost isnt worthwhile for shipping. Their costs are horrendous for individuals and small operators.
You MUST have insurance, which costs a lot more, as they take no responsibility even if you have "tracking". Tracking just tells you they didnt deliver and if they acknowledge that they just refund the postage.
A click and collect type setup wasn't really appropriate, and Dan Murphy's don't stock it, or at least the store here doesn't and it's not listed online.
The online store for the rum distillery has a minimum of a dozen bottles for delivery, but we took the chance and asked instore, and they had no minimum, just an astronomical delivery fee of close to $40 - not really a big deal as they're significantly cheaper per bottle than elsewhere, so it averaged out ok, and although it wasn't ideal we sent the two packages to one address. The second would have had to go to a post office box anyway, and they won't do that.
Thanks all for your suggestions.
The best way to ship alcohol is in your stomach.
