Ideas for Cool/Unique Christmas Gifts for under $50

Christmas is soon approaching and my grandparents traditionally give $50 every year. When you already have a source of income, I feel as if money for Christmas and your birthday isn't really valuable as $50 can be earned in less than a days work. If you can get $50 every other day of the year then getting it for Christmas isn't really much of a surprise.

I don't need anything in particular. What are some cool gift ideas for under $50? I'm talking gifts that people keep for a long time for example quality pocket knives or framed collectors items, not something like a headset or tablet.

  • I think leathermans make a good timeless gift, and you can usually pick up genuine versions with sheaths for under $50 from ebay retailers. look for their micra, sidekick or wingman versions.

This is a gift for yourself spending the $50 they'll give you?

Why not do something that would give you a really nice memory of your grandparents? One of my favourite memories was playing a round of golf with my Pop when I was about 15. Total cost? About $20 (country golf course) plus lunch.

With my Nan it was going to cent auctions. I'm pretty sure my Mum was horrified when I'd come home with the stuff I'd won (hideous knitted toilet roll covers, a live Dove, duck eggs because I though she'd make a nice sponge for me — wrong).

I buy things for myself all the time, but in reality it's junk. I wish I had more time with my loved ones.

If that's not an option, why not go buy some toys for some kids who need a buzz on Christmas morning? The Smith Family would gladly take the donation, or maybe you know someone who is doing it tough.

    Merry Christmas

  • I don't know what your kitchen situation is like, but this year if I get any cash (or gift cards) I'm going to invest in a really high quality 28cm frying pan.

For the last 10 years I've been stingy and bought the el cheapo's from Kmart and even the Reject Shop, and I'm sick of them.. so going to buy one of those really nice heavy base ones with the stone/marble appearance at the bottom.

Saw one when flicking through the infomercial channels on TV, but I won't be buying it from them… maybe during a Myer after Christmas sale or something there'll be a good bargain or 2.

  • My non stick coating woolies pan out lasted my Tefal pan, and stone dine … So good luck!
*note - cheapos warp easier though, not an issue using gas
