Sydney has an OMEGA boutique, but I think it is closed. it is on Martin place, might reopen later in the week

JT Pitt Street, Swiss Concept or Shums stock OMEGA products.

all OMEGA watches you buy has 2 year warranty. any reason why it has to be OMEGA?

there is another boutique in Bondi, not sure if Bondi is close to Sydney

  • If you're a good negotiator, you can get 30% off RRP for these sorts of watches. I've seen my mum do it (including one she bought for me.) Unfortunately I'm not such a ball-breaker but it's definitely something to keep in mind if you need one more urgently. It's like buying a car - always be ready to walk away.

  • For the savings it is better to go to HK in February, buy one there, stay there the weekend (go crazy during the sales) and come back and you could still be ahead.

    • I've looked in Honk Kong and wasn't too impressed with the prices. My mate bought his Aqua Terra on the way home from Japan, got the best price there.

      • I bought mine at Mitsukoshi and got a 45 % discount on an already low price.

  • Solo foxtrot

I have been looking to buy an automatic from quite sometime n personally feel Omega would be a nice one as it's simple n classy at the same time … Quick ??? Anyone heard about Marvin watches ….

    • Marvin have some nice looking watches, was an old watch company that they resurrected by floating the company on the stock exchange. About a year ago you could buy shares in the company and qualify for a discount off watches as a shareholder. Anytime I have looked at them there seems to be heavy discounts. They look like regular swiss watches with decent movements (ETA/Sellita etc)

  • buying an omega is like buying a bmw/mercedes. the product cost itself is gonna be high and service costs outside warranty will be high. that said they are of good quality.

you might get away by looking at longines conquest classic or even a bit lower, a rado hyperchrome

    haven't heard about marvin.

oh and cheapest seamaster is about 3k.

    • Omega's aren't that bad, couple of hundred every couple of years. Cheaper if it's not a mechanical movement.

      • But Autos are the collectible ones that hold a resale value, Quartz watches lose their value much quicker

    • Had a lLongines Conquest GMT and took it back after a week, very noisy, sounded like a squeaky spring on my wrist the whole time. Shop told me all Auto watches were like that, I laughed and pointed out the Omega Aqua Terra I was wearing at the time and how it didnt squeak!!!

  • I have an Omega Aqua Terra, wearing it as I type this. I bought mine from a Jewellers shop in the US when the $$ was high. Managed a 35% ish discount with all the papers etc. My experience with Australian shops is that they are all way overpriced for watches in General!! I have about 7 or so Swiss autos at the moment and a Seiko Monster!!

You say Seamaster but there are a large range of seamaster watches, from the Aqua Terra through the 'Bond' watch to the Planet Ocean range. If I was buying one I would get onto the watch forum at watchuseek.com and read a lot. Dont go on there and ask for where is a good place to buy a watch, they will just refer you to the sponsors for the site. If you go that route, the board sponsors there apparently offer decent deals (toppers and ace jewellers I thnk).

That said, look in the sales forums on the site. There are private watch dealers that sell new full warranty watches through the sales boards. If you are at all interested in looking through 2nd hand watches, use the tool at www.watchrecon.com to research what is available. Omega are a very common brand and there will be loads for sale. Watch out for CONUS, this means the seller wont sell to anybody outside the US! There will though probably be sellers there selling new or newish watches at thousands less than the Omega Boutique.

My Omega is very well made and so far hasn't missed a beat.

  • Thanks guys for the input
Merry X-Mas and happy new year :-)

  • Try Swiss Watch Box in Perth. They have a website and sell new and second hand. Been dealing with them for years, for Rolex and Patek watches and always been a good experience.
