Cheapest method to relocate 100kg of things interstate (QLD to VIC)

The breakdown of things in the 100kg:
20kg clothing
10kg desktop computer
70kg home gym free weights

The options I can think of are: courier (Auspost, DHL, etc) OR buy 100kg of check in luggage and bring all these things back with me by plane.

If you have lots of time but no money, 1 way rentals may be worthwhile looking at.

    e.g. http://deals.vroomvroomvroom.com.au/ or http://www.imoova.com/imoova/relocations

Usually costs a few $ per day and some come with fuel allowances. I don't think it'd be worth it if you had to pay your own petrol though.

You could ring around the cheaper interstate removalists and see is they have a backload they could put it on and maybe arrange for you to meet them to save on money

Personally, I would sell the free weights and then buy second hand again when you are in VIC. There are always people selling gym equipment because heaps of people buy and never bother to use. So you can sell and buy for pretty much the same price. Much better than trying to transport.

With your clothes, they can come with you on the plane. Is it just you or is there anyone else coming with you? My advice would be to layer yourself as much as possible, as ridiculous as that might sound. I know it's summer and you'll look ridiculous, but when you're checking in your hand luggage, make sure you're wearing two pairs of shorts, another two pairs of pants, a couple of t-shirts, jumpers and two jackets and then make sure you're holding another jacket and jumper in your hands. It doesn't matter, security is really lax with interstate. Once you get to the other side, just take it all off and dump it in your hand luggage. The rest can go in your check-in.

If you can't be bothered with all that, there's always the option of just buying more luggage space/weight, but that's expensive. Computer can be chucked in with check-in luggage.

  • Courier? http://www.e-go.com.au/ was less than $20 for ~25kg from melbourne to sydney

  • Yes agree, 30 kgs check in luggage and sell the rest and re buy. And, look at the one way relocations.

Yikes! 70kgs of free weights. Perhaps sell them and buy same or similar ones again on Gumtree in Vic.

I'd have thought a removalist would be thew way to go, they do it be space not weight.

20kgs of clothes seem like a lot. Consider donating what you no longer need.

They'll pack it and as a rough guesstimate it appears to be around 3 cubic metres easily. Probably around $500 at most.

I'd have thought an airline would charge around that price for 70kgs excess. Maybe call the cargo departments of the airlines.

Are you taking the bar also or just the weights? Maybe sell that as it's so long.
