its not a notebook. Its a desktop.
So its not a GT220M but a GT220
well the one shown above is the mobile version of the gpu so the desktop version should be slightly faster 9600gt-9700gt should be decent for gaming, just dont expect to crank the graphics to full everything for graphics
Hmmm, interesting build Dell have gone for… minimum 8Gb RAM, but still offer 32bit OS?
Rough pricing for DIY:
i7 920 - $360
6GB DDR3 1600 RAM - $175
Mobo - $300
Case - $100
DVD - $50
1TB HDD - $100
600W 80+ PSU - $170
Build fee - $50
Vista OS - $135
Monitor 23.6" Acer $260 (can get $49 cashback too)
Sub: $1700
With the leftover $300, pretty sure you can get a much better graphics card than the GT220 and still have money to spare for an aftermarket cooler or funky keyboard/mouse. eg: 1GB 4870 $189 and Noctua C12P $89
it offers 64 bit OS
and quite frankly, it's not fair to compare DIY to branded, at least they provides tech support and passed stablity test, which fairly often happens to DIY desktop
and just saw the MBC 7% rebate, means price goes down to $1859 with 8G RAM
Re: 64 bit OS - I know, I was just pointing out that if you opted for a 32bit OS (default option), you'd have a fair chunk of redundant RAM as you can't downgrade below 8Gb.
Hmmm, my opinion is that it's entirely reasonable to compare DIY to branded, how else do you check to see if it's good value or not?
The tradeoff is of course tech support vs. better parts and thats for each consumer to decide.
the default option is vista home premium 64 bit lol
@cloud226: Hah, so it is! Either it changed or I'm smoking the good stuff lol My bad!
yeah 8 gig is not dividable by three either, so its not tri channel.
and they even take up all your ram slots to do it!
8GB (4X1GB/2x2GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz Memory
ram is cheap get 12 gig if thats an issue, still cheaper then the dell :D
1024MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT220
yuck!
id much rather go the home built machine… local support is good and as long as you buy from a good PC
who know what they are doing.
usually the power supplies in dells is only a few hundred watts, only just enough to power the machine.
Oh, they've started using that nomenclature for desktop cards. I see.
The GT220 for desktops would be less decent. OK for older games and lower resolutions on newer games, would struggle with top end games. Not a good gaming card for desktops.
is possible to DIY update the video card from dell desktop?
would it break warranty and stuff?
No, it doesn't break the warranty, yes, it is possible to upgrade them. Need to check with the power supply as to what it can handle, but I upgrade video cards in Dell's regularly.
first submission, be mercy :)
AH HA!!!!!! BLITZ IS NEVER MERCY!!!!!
meh nothing special here
Here's some info on the GT220M.
Decent for gaming, but not top shelf.
