Looking for a Good Value Sim-Only Plan

Hi guys, I am looking for a good sim-only plan

Ideally:

  • unlimited calls and texts
  • 1.5GB+ data
  • around $30/month, willing to stretch to $40

Only the 1.5GB+ of data is critical, willing to take a hit on texts and calls as long as it is still a decent amount.

4G will be nice but not essential.

Thanks!

    Vodafone $40 SIMO

    Infinite calls in AUS
    Infinite text here and overseas
    2GB data

Amaysim if you don't mind 3G with extra data

    • Bonus 500mb taking it up to 2.5GB if you recharge online.

  • Amaysim? Aust co, aust call centre, Optus network.

    • 3G only.

      • You said it was not essential?

      • My Amaysim now shows 4G ?? :-)

id avoid the optus network. i keep getting dropped calls and missed calls in many suburbs costing me time and money. im going to give lebara a try since they are on the vodafone network for only $29 with 2gb. i just hope its better coverage than optus if not then might be forced to go back to telstra.

    • Yeah I simply can't deal with Optus or Vodafone in Adelaide, they are just too bad too make up for the considerably higher rates that Telstra charges on their network that actually works a lot of the time.

But most people's experience and willngness to put up with issues will vary no doubt of course.

So from that perspective I keep myself stocked up on cheap Boost and Telstra sim starter packs when I can find them and continuously port to and from another sim when I need to.

Other than that I would definitely recommend investigating Spintel (Optus) because they actually have a very innovative pricing that will save you money if you don't use everything you want (eg. say you only text 50 times a month but use a huge amount of call times - you will pay less than a provider where you pay for unlimited text and calls.)

    Spintel
    https://www.spintel.net.au/products/mobile

    Unlimited voice/sms/mms + 2.5GB data, on 4G Optus network for $36

    • spintel seems a great deal but I dont know anyone that uses it.
you can choose a smaller plan and they just bump it up to the next level if needed - say you pay for 600 text ($9) and go over you aoto go to umlimited txt and pay $3.

Anyone use spintel, any problems? whats coverage like on the Gold Coast?

  • Telechoice Kogan deal. I've been on it since Easter I only pay $28. I worked it out yo around 10hrs talk time, unlimited txt and 2gb data a month https://www.telechoice.com.au/kogan-offers
I'm putting my parents into the $20 plans. Then we get free calls to each other

  • I would go Vaya (was with them for a year) on Opfus, 4G, $18/month includes $650 calls, unlimited SMS, 1.5GB data.
It's a great deal and cheaper than most companies ;)

  • Telstra Beyond Talk Prepaid.

    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

    $40 = 300mins calls, 300 texts, 1.7GB data (300mb base and 700mb x 2 data plus packs)

    • Have they just updated those?
      Cos I'm seeing $40 for 300 mins, 300 texts and 300MB.
Data packs are $20 for 700MB, so total would be $80.

      • i think he is saying buy 2 data packs with the $40 base.
I thought that was stopped though.

        • Encore Plans are gone.

This is Beyond Talk prepaid plans. Datapacks are purchased with the $40 base.

          Check link above.

        • @Gunther:
OP was hoping for $30 and willing to stretch to $40.

Your comment makes it sound like the total is $40 including the cost of two data packs, but actually costs $80.
Or am I misinterpreting what you're saying?

        • @legiong:

I am on the Beyond Talk Plan and only spend $40 cash per month….

          $40 = 300mins calls, 300 texts, 1.7GB data (300mb base and 700mb x 2 data plus packs purchased with the $40 base credit.)

          Telstra Beyond Talk Prepaid.
          https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

          Data Plus Packs.
          https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/off…

Telstra FREEDOM Prepaid does NOT offer datapacks like BEYOND TALK does.

        • @Gunther:
Sorry, but I'm still really confused.

So does it work like this:
          $40 buys you:
          300 mins calls
          300 texts
          300MB data
+ $40 credit to spend on other stuff

Then you use that $40 credit to buy the data packs?

I thought the $40 bought you:
          300 mins calls
          300 texts
          300MB data

And if you wanted additional data then you had to spend more money.

Sorry, I've never had prepaid before.

^^Correct. $40 credit is used for international calls, premium SMS, data packs, etc etc

  • Boost

    $40 per month
    2.5GB data
Unlimited calls and SMS (domestic only)
Telstra 3G network (the entire network, not the part they offer to other companies only)

    • what about MMS is that unlimited as well?

      • Yes

  • How come noone mentioned aldi?
$35 a month, 1250 min calls, 2200 msg, 2gb data, telstra 3G (part of, but i had boost sim for a month and could not notice any difference with my downloads and browsing)
And i have coverage where i struggled with both optus and Vodafone some years ago.
