Sodastream Newbie - Cylinder Adapter SODAMOD

Hi all

I finally pulled the trigger yesterday and bought SodaStream Source from Target at half price.

I have few questions
1. when carbonating, does the white tip needs to touch the liquid? or can I carbonate the half filled bottle?
2. has anyone tried this adapter called SodaMod? link here - http://www.sodamod.com/default.asp

cheers!

  • SodaMod is good, but you can DIY the whole thing if you know a hammer from a spanner. Cylinder and valve with hose.

Lots of pages online about it.

Sodastream is incredibly expensive in comparison to home made. Many people also did it for the control over ingredients. It's just juice and stuff with artificial sweeteners.

They've finally gotten around to doing natural sweetener ones now though. Not sure if it's xylitol or stevia.

Keg King also sells an adapter for $89.95, plus you'll need to buy a CO2 tank.

And yes, the white tip needs to be submerged in the liquid.

From what i understand now if you like to hack your sodastream, the upfront cost is around $300
      $89.95 for the adapter
$200 for the 2.6kg cylinder (filled)

      Am i missing anything else?

        $164.

Cheaper if you look around, I got mine for $150 delivered last year.

        • thats great.
but that is all that is required right?

        • @kwetiaw:

Yes, and the KegKing SodaStream Adapter

I would have used the SodaMod, but refilling paintball cylinders isn't cheap in Australia.

        • @Pigey: do you know how much approximately to refill the paintball cylinders in sydney cbd?
          thanks!

  • I believe it needs to touch. I have the normal type and not the source, and I mainly use the 500mL bottles as the 1L I found was too big.

  • What does it cost to have the CO2 cylinders retested? From what I can gather it's required 5 yearly?
