Vinomofo - 2012 Schild Estate Shiraz - $99 + $9 Delivery ($8.25 p/b)

21

I am 90% sure this is the 2012 Schild Estate Shiraz. The 20111 was a very popular drop among OzBargainers and also my circle of friends (including myself!). Currently retailing at $17.09 in any six at Dan Murphy, $8.25 is a bargain for this delicious drop. Stock up before Christmas!

I've cottoned on a bit late to this one, so there is only an hour left to buy!

I'm afraid the 2011 Schild Estate (JH score 86) I purchased from Vinomofo some months back was one of the worst wine purchasing mistakes I've ever made. Given the quality of the grapes (2011 was a terrible vintage and you can't disguise bad quality by dumping in sugar), it should never have made it to the bottle. Further investigation also revealed that Schild has previously partaken in some seriously questionable practices with the release of their 2008 shiraz vintage: http://www.glug.com.au/index_industry.php?sec=industry&art=1…
As a result, I won't touch this winery with a barge pole.

      I liked it…

I second this. Terrible wine. In fact most of the 2011 reds I've tried are less than average. But this one in particular is horrible.

Another one to avoid is Mitolo Jester Cab Sav 2011. Probably worse than Schild.

        I liked that one too…

        • The 2011 Schild had far too much sugar. James Halliday summed it up quite well in his review for this wine when he stated: "The efforts made in the winery to rescue the wine from the vintage are worn on its (the wine's) sleeve. Damned if you do, damned if you don't." But that aside, as mentioned, the action Schild took in 2008 to flood the market with a whole new batch of 2008 shiraz from different grapes, falsely marketing it as the original wine which had won accolades from Wine Spectator, go beyond the pale, and it's for this that I'm boycotting them.

Are you aware you a posting on Ozbargain ???

I thought the 2011 was fine, but I paid about $3/bottle for it though.

    • me too… about $36 delivered for a dozen… :P

      I've only got 2 bottles left…

  • I liked the 2011 drop and I know at least 6 other people who also enjoyed it. Also if you go back through the previous deals for this drop on OzBargain, it was very popular. Each to their own though, I don't see why it is worth negging the deal… It's less than half the RRP.

    • If you read my comments again, you'll note that I'm not negging the deal because of the terrible 2011 vintage. I'm negging it because of the concerning behaviour the winery has partaken in to falsely market previous vintages of this wine as something they are not (see link above - plenty more reports to be found via google).

      • has partaken in to falsely market previous vintages of this wine as something they are not

Didn't you read their disclaimer ???

"Past performance information is not a reliable indicator of future performance of this company or product."

  • That's fair enough then, although it doesn't stop it from being a good deal / bargain where value is concerned. Perhaps they've cleaned up their act in the past near 7 years?

A few 5 star reviews on Dan Murphy for this drop also - https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_902684/schild-estat…

    • It may not be 2012 Schild Estate Shiraz!
The Alcohol Volume on Mofo is $13.9 not 14.5% (2012)!
as listed on Dan Murphy for 2012 Schild Estate Shiraz
Current Vintage 2012* Standard Drinks 8.6 (2012) Country Australia Alcohol Volume 14.5% (2012)

  • It's NOT the Schild Estate, a/v of 13.9% is the giveaway…

It IS the Fox Gordon Eight Uncles, it's been offered before.

    • Fox Gordon a better buy! Expired however…

      • It may come back again, this is the second time for the 2012, the 2010 appeared a few times before it sold out.

      • Expired however…

So it tastes like vinegar ???
