  • optus just released their new $90 unlimited package for cable + phone . like 2 days ago. here is the thread

    • but how fast will it be? they say I cant get cable - I already have ADSL2+

      • go to whirlpool and check out your options.

      • If you only have adsl2+ available, it will be around the same as your current setup… TPG resells optus networks… There may be a minor increase but i wouldn't count on it.

Only option is to see if you will be getting NBN anytime soon, if not you could always move >_>

        !@#$ing Turnbull…

        • TPG resells optus networks

Only for mobile, not for landline/internet.

        • @bonezAU:

Hmmm, they don't have their own network right? From what i remember they didn't resell Telstra either…

        • @ProjectZero:

They have their own network in most metro areas yes, but they will resell you a Telstra ADSL port if their own network doesn't cover your area (or you live regional).

The pricing and plans are just a little bit more expensive.

      • Optus ADSL2+ usually sits at 20Mb/s.
Cable starts at 30mb/s, but you can purchase speed packs, $10 for 50mb/s or $20 for 100mb/s

        • +2

Optus ADSL2+ usually sits at 20Mb/s.

These should be theoretical max speeds, it isn't guaranteed. It is dependent on distance from the house to the cabinet

        • If you are more than 3 km away from exchange you get miserable speeds on adsl2+. I am 3 km away and i used to get 4 mbps only.Theoretically at that distance i should get 6 mbps but the copper is probably in a bad condition.Again telstra wont do anything. Thankfully optus cable was available in my suburb and i shifted to cable.

  • I am also looking at Cable option. I've been on ADSL2+ for more than 10 years. When we first moved in it sync at 12Mbps. Now it sync at 6Mbps but during peak hours (7PM to 12AM) I'm lucky to get 2Mbps in Australia and less than 1Mbps from oversea sites (with Exetel).

Optus is not available in my area unfortunately. However Telstra Cable is but the deal is not as good as the Optus one.
