I'm looking for a tent that is good in quality, fairly easy to setup and is affordable..

Any suggestions?

Hi, having purchased a number of tents over the years, the biggest mistakes I made was buying from Kmart & Big W (JAckeroo, Coleman etc). Tents never seemed to last, given the price.
My current one is from Oztrail, which I purchased from Camping Country in Newcastle area. Otherwise, Ray's Outdoors, Anaconda, kangaroo tent city, or any dedicated Camping shop will give you good advice. Also, when it says 4 person, It usually suits 2 1/2 people. ;-).
If it is just 1 person, look at a Swag, though they do cost more.

i have a kamrt tent i bought for $30 4 years ago… still going strong. the tent was a 4 person tent but realistically can only fit 2. i decided to upgrade earlier this year, and had my mind set on the instant tents. i ended up going all out an getting the black wolf turbo plus canvas tent. i totally regret buying this tent as it's way to big and heavy. is it a instant tent? yes it is but it still took longer to set up then my kmart tent!! packing up was a nightmare! if i had to do it again i would probably go the coleman 4 or 6 person instant tent which is a much lighter tent.

  • Please give more info.
E.g. are you hiking, or car-camping.
    How many people?
To use once or to use many times a year?
To set up in one place for two weeks at Xmas or to put up and take down every day or two when you are touring?

    • Its for 2 and a half, its for a dedicated camping spot which is on a concrete slab from memory

I was thinking of getting the coleman instant 6 person tent for $250

I want to put it up for 2 days and then take it down then use it for the next camping trip..

      • Seems okay. That's probably one of the better ones in the Coleman range.

  • Get one of those two storied ones for extra room

  • Anaconda have 30% off Oztrail. Expires December 24th.
Also, buy a few extra larger tent pegs. The ones that come with most tents are quite often useless.
Will you be staying in a spot that maybe windy?

I used to think a tent is a tent is a tent! Could not have been more wrong!
You really need to tell us what you want to do.

I pack hike and camp in the alpine areas in summer or early Autumn. so I need tents that are light, water proof and can shed wind. In such isolated areas, using the inapproriate tent can leave to severe discomfort or death in the worse case if you get caught out in the worst possible condition. car camping is easier. if the doing gets tough, you can go home.

I like getting my camping stuff from www.campsaver.com
When I am ready for some Alpine camping in winter, I will be getting a hilleberg from them

  • I ended up getting the Coleman 6 Person Instant tent.. I'm really impressed with it, it goes up and comes down fast.. only part I hate is packing it back into the bag..
