About to get my car this weekend. Not sure what forms I need to sign. Even tho I'm buying a car from my mate, I still do want to make sure I protect myself.
Can someone walk me through the steps for buying a second hand car?
Correct me if I'm wrong
The car comes with rego until Feb next year, is there anything I need to do? Or just renew it next year?

mate will have rego papers, he fills out the sellers details and tears off the bottom half and gives to you.
you go to rego office and pay the transfer fee to your name.
the CTP insurance he had with the car will also transfer to your name automatically for the remaining period of the current registration, no fee.
you will still need to get TPP or comp insurance before you drive it.
make sure he has no outstanding loans on the car before you give him the $
Hey, cheers for the detailed reply =]. Do I have to go in person? I thought he just needs to lodge the disposal and I will register the transfer online=]. Yeh looking thru comprehensive insurance at the moment. I didn't get the rrsp check because I know the car is not financed.
