    Best way to get an accommodation discount is by contacting the hotel directly and quoting the price you have seen online.

    All hotels listed on these sites pay the following commission

    Agoda 15 percent
    hotels.com 15 - 20 percent
    Expedia 10 percent
    Wotif 12 Percent
    Booking.com 12 percent
    Not sure on the others.

    The best way to approach a discount is by quoting the most expensive commission site Hotels.com which is Orbitz & Agoda. All these websites make the hotels provide there room rates at the same on-line rate they call it rate parity. The way around this is to contact the hotel via telephone and ask for a discount for booking directly. They can quite often offer this via a phone booking but not on an online booking due to rate parity. If a hotel breaks rate parity online they can have their listing removed. All these website have bots that monitor what the hotels are doing. Even if you don't achieve a discount you can ask for a free upgrade, late check-out, meal vouchers. It is in the best interest of the hotel to get you to book directly as they make more money as they won't have to pay commission.
