Are there any cheap one around. Something under $30, just need it to watch youtube on the tv.

Google Chromecast. It's about that price and will play videos and youtube from your phone.

    ~$40 is closer to what you'll get for the Chromecast (I think the cheapest I've seen it is like $36, or $33 combined with 'welcome credit' or something at HN).

I just plug my macbook into my tv with an HDMI cable, and then a DVI—>HDMI. I think together the cables were $10-$15 on eBay?
If you have a newish laptop and tv they should both have HDMI ports.
