Overdue Library Fine Amnesty (Brisbane). Cost = Canned Food

Moved to Forum: Original Link

OK. Not your typical bargain but for those of us in with BCC library fines so big they just stopped using the library this is our chance for redemption.

The following if cut and pasted from an email they sent out:

Customers who return their overdue books at a library during December 2014 or have existing overdue fines, processing fees and/or holds fees will have these fees waived in exchange for a can of food. Please note that perishable food items cannot be accepted.

Lost library items are not covered by the amnesty.

This year, Council's library amnesty will donate all food to Foodbank Queensland, an organisation that distributes food to charities and community organisations who assist those in need.

Also don't be a twat who just palms off their useless canned goods. e.g. a hearty stew or spaghetti and meatballs will go a lot further than (profanity) pickled capers or some other equally useless crap.

    • Yep I know. And I really appreciated it being posted last year. So I figured I'd return the favour this year.

If I were a betting man I'd wager it will be on again next December - but that's a long time to wait if anyone misses this one.

  • note it is only for overdue fees, not hold fees or other fees

    • I'm not any kind of authority on such things (or anything really) but I believe it does cover hold fees. What it doesn't include is fees relating to lost items.

      • oh you are right, i read the page and it says hold fees are included.

it all goes to a good cause….so lets all drop in some cans even if we don't have fees outstanding.

  • That's a fantastic initiative.

I just paid $8 in fines the other day =(
