NSW Disabled Zones, now attract 1 demerit point (if you do not display a current sticker)

Hi, I saw a friend of mine who is a Highway Patrol Officer patrolling a car park yesterday. I asked what he was doing here, ie going to pick up a roadie from Dan Murphy's? He said that as of Monday December 1, parking in Disabled zones not only attracts a $519 fine but 1 demerit point.

Id have made it more points, 1 isn't enough

    good.

  • So who gets the demerit point if the cop is not there to see the car being parked or driven off? Is it the owner or could he palm the point off to his 80 year old uncle?

    • Same as a flash for cash, whom ever you put on the form when you pay the fine, so yes if gramps so cool with it you can put him down

  • I once saw a Ferrari parked in a disabled spot and showing the disabled card on the window… smh

It probably cost them an arm and a leg.

    • I recall a few years ago, there was a family/gang who had some personalised numberplates, that was in protest against the NSW Police. It was a BMW/Mercedes, it had a disabled permit, and they were on government benefits.

  • op, was this a local council car park or car park that is privately owned and operated?

    • It was homemakers shopping centre at Kotara NSW. I assume that they are private rds. I have seen a vehicle with a 3hr warning label on the windscreen.

I wish they did this also for baby parks

    • that would be silly.

        Agreed, baby shouldnt be driving

        • i'm a bit confused. what are baby parks? baby parks as in playgrounds?

        • @whooah1979:
I do believe it is relation to pram parking, they are not everywhere but most large shopping centres have sections for parents with pram parking. I don't think they are in the same fields as disabled parking, I have 2 kids and never found myself needing one

I'd prefer that they got rid of those. Why should there be priority parking for people with kids? You've got a pram, put the kid in it and walk - that's why you've got the pram (By the way, I have two kids under 4).
