I'm always skeptical of these supposed 'cost price sales'.

    • +2

Yep. 'Cost price' is Wholesale + Our bare minimum breakeven (rent, wages, utilities etc) plus a nice tidy 10% for just a little bit of a profit.

      • +1

I think they are genuine cost + $1 but the suppliers give them huge kickbacks for selling quantites of their product. (Usually big box items)
When Goodguys used to do this the idea was to buy the Nik Nak products that have big margins.

    • +4

Exactly. Although I'd be more likely to go to a VP event then a DSE or JB.

      • For sure, support small biz and the service is likely to be twice as good. Plus the passion of the sales staff would be there, if not light years ahead of DSE or JB.

  • or maybe its invoice price + gst + $1…….doesnt take into consideration rebates as they are paid at a later date….at the prices tvs are sold these days these sales are quite often a bit redundant.

  • Sony A6000 goes up a dollar!!!!!

  • +2

Where is the deal? You can't just post "store x is having a sale" and not provide any examples of such bargains.

    • -2

You click on the button that says "Go To Deal". Pretty simple

      • +1

Or did you want me to sit here and type out each and every deal because you can't be bothered clicking a button?

Sick of people on this site who never post any deals yet always have criticism for the few that actually take the time to post deals to try and help people out.

      • No, I wanted you to put some effort into determining which of the deals were actual 'deals'. If I open a newspaper and see a Harvey Norman advertisement with 15 'specials' - how many of them are actually the lowest price available?

If you're going to make a post on OzBargain it's your duty to ensure that the item's cost is lower than what you can get elsewhere.

  • I doubt they have any GT65 or ST/GT 55 plasmas left but….if they do….even a display one I might be compelled to part with some cash.

edit LOL the do have a broadcast quality 42in 'Reference Monitor' left.

ONLY 3,880… wonder what the price difference will be come Thursday.

    Even though it's commercial quality….3k…really?

    • +1

People pay that much for a 24" monitor. Once you get outside mass market consumer goods, prices go exponential.

      • Yeah. I used to sell home theater back in the day and remember the heyday of Pioneer and Fujitsu plasmas. Commercial grade were always big money.

I guess my shock is moreso that a TV of this size and (now) outdated tech still commands that price.

I'm still a big plasma fan but I had hoped prices would plummet more when they reached End of Life.
Even with some peeps still working in retail at 'friend prices' I could never get my hands on a Panasonic 65 or 55in GT or ST for a truly rock bottom price.

Couldn't get that sweet 'sell it below cost deal' I was waiting for and now (sniff) they are all gone (weeep).

        • Comparatively large demand for the amount of stock available…places never had to lose money to clear them.

One day you will probably find one store with a display model that just got forgotten , then you can strike.

        • +1

          @ugoagogo:
          Oh..and strike I shall.

  • +2
    • So not even 5% off.

  • how do we even that's the real cost? never really buy into this kinda promo

    • +2

Does that really matter if it ends up the cheapest price around.

  • +2

I bought a TV last year from one of these sales and get it for cheaper than anywhere else on that day. I think there's always an element of what the true cost is but I do believe videopro aren't schmucks like DS always are.

  • +1

This is like the Sharp marketing 'deal' the other day - no real price listed, no deal, not available NOW. More marketing spam than anything. Litmus test - can I buy this now? Nope. How much? Don't know.

    • No real price listed? I don't understand
