Measure the plug with a ruler - if it matches, get this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AC-Adapter-ADP-90CD-DB-FOR-Acer-9…

    Otherwise this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-AC-Adapter-Charger-for-Acer-A…

Voltage is the same, just double check the plug.

What Davo1111 said. The voltage and current capacity need to match and Davo's found the right one, only the size of the jack needs to match now. Colour of the plastic is irrelevant.

If you have a local Freecycle group, put a wanted ad there. Sometimes people have a spare one.

    • Thanks :-) I've contacted them yesterday, with the pics but have not received a reply yet.

pics don't tell them anything, just get a ruler and measure it yourself.

Ehhhh… a big YMMV on those generic replacements. Dunno about Acer, but they are known to have issues providing the correct signals to charge Dell and HP laptops. Also, speaking of going up in flames…

I've had some luck in the past by searching for auctions for OEM adapters - there's a lot floating around from dead laptops but not much buyer interest.

    Pictures of fire?

  • Liteon? on a Acer laptop? Buy the lappy second hand?
Officeworks, Jaycar, and last resort DSE sell them.
Alternatively look for a computer repair place nearby, they usually have used ones from busted laptops.
Make sure you get one with the correct output voltage & amps and the right laptop connector, they all vary.

    • Bought laptop new. I had the laptop repaired under warranty, they might have swapped the charger then. But that was 2 years ago.

  • Liteon is the OEM for Acer right? just ring up Acer, make a big fuss over how it was really dangerous and unsafe and they might send you a replacement for free

    • Called them and was told that the adapter has been engineered in such a way that it auto-destructs to prevent damage to the laptop. Cldn't b bothered arguing, was busy at work.

Liteon is one of the genuine Acer AC adapter manufacturers.

The size of the tip is the same for both the 19v 4.74a Blue tipped adapter and the 19v 3.42a Yellow tipped adapter.

As yours is the 19v 4.74a, you want a 90w adapter if you are going for a universal replacement, or buy one of eBay. Any adapter made for an Acer that is 19v 4.74a will do as they are all the same.

If you want a replacement in a hurry then Jaycar has several that could do the job. You will pay more there than you would on eBay but you will have it sooner. Take your laptop and the power supply with you and they will be able to help you better. Here is one that may suit http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MP3476

  • Liteon more like light up(on fire)……

But In truth Liteon are the OEM for many products, dunno why that happened to you….. oh well :)

    • On the same day, found my sg s3 screen smashed and the charger for my Asus memopad has gone missing..it was one of those weekends:-(

      • Darn mate!, you really have my sympathy….. I'd hate to have anything broken or missing out of my major use items.

      • what a coincidence, my partner's S3 also just got a cracked lcd! must be one of the earlier "non bendy" smartphones! lol
ps lcd replacement is >$100, let me know if you find it cheaper
