this laptop is not new. Just replaced the adapter this year with a generic from china model PA -1700-02 inut 100-240v & 1.8A & 50/60Hz; output 19V = 3.16A.
It is lighting but the laptop does not charge or work on power.
The battery shows 20% left[?] on the back when I press it.
A PC repair student at TAFE told me there could be a connecter issue inside the laptop. He said laptops were hard to repair as they might need special dismantling.
He suggested I ask JB Hi Fi to test to see what the problem really was before buying a new adapter or a new battery as it could be something else inside the laptop like a connecter, etc. They refused. Dick Smith did not wish to sell an adapter and would not test it either.
Is there a place which will test this for me before I buy the adapter/battery, or if it is the connector then maybe it is no longer worthwhile repairing? Online I found some local .com.au sites selling adapters for <$30 +$10 delivery. Dick Smith etc. sell them for ~$90.
your best advice would be appreciated.
thank you
