Years ago on a food show that I watched (Market Values) the presenter went to the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin and tried the baumkuchen or german tree cake. It seems to be made primarily around Christmas over there however I was wondering whether anyone knows where I can find it or possibly where i can import it from as I've been searching for years with no luck. I've also tried the Japanese specialty stores which claim to have them along with german bakeries to no avail either. Can any Germans here (if there are any) or anyone else shed light on this?

Luneburger is a German bread shop in Sydney and Melbourne. What you are after is sometimes called Treecake and Layercake, maybe they stock something with a different name. They are downstairs in the QVB and the southern end of Elizabeth Street Melbourne but probably other places too
