Where can I find baumkuchen in Sydney?

Hi all,

Years ago on a food show that I watched (Market Values) the presenter went to the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin and tried the baumkuchen or german tree cake. It seems to be made primarily around Christmas over there however I was wondering whether anyone knows where I can find it or possibly where i can import it from as I've been searching for years with no luck. I've also tried the Japanese specialty stores which claim to have them along with german bakeries to no avail either. Can any Germans here (if there are any) or anyone else shed light on this?

Cheers

  • Luneburger is a German bread shop in Sydney and Melbourne. What you are after is sometimes called Treecake and Layercake, maybe they stock something with a different name. They are downstairs in the QVB and the southern end of Elizabeth Street Melbourne but probably other places too

  • Tokyo Mart in Northbridge (Sydney) have frozen pieces of Baum Kuchen. Take a trip to Japan to enjoy the real thing :)

  • There is a new shop on George St near McDonald's (opposite 3 wise monkeys). They have Japanese baumkuchen.
