Want to ask the same, why still somebody buy iPods at that price. I will buy one if $50.

    • Haha. It has the same ipad mini 1 A5 chip which was as low as $200 in OZB history.

Tech greek you have no idea about the market. Just know how to compare specs.

        • But they both struggle after the IOS 8 update that is enough for people to consider how much life is left in it after the next update (if any).

        • @wtfnodeal: These will most likely have iOS 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 installed. Probably best to leave it and not upgrade to iOS 8.

@netsurfer: when IOS 9 is out most apps won't let you update if you don't have at least IOS 8. Eventually you have to update to the next IOS.

@wtfnodeal: Mine runs iOS 6. If you have been using iOS for a while, it is not an issue. For apps I bought, Apple sometimes do ask me whether I want to install an older version which is compatible with the device. Put it this way, I haven't found an app that only has iOS 7 or above version which is a must for me to even upgrade to iOS 7, let alone iOS 8. I don't like the iOS 7 flat icons.

Apple made apps won't upgrade to the latest version if you don't run the latest iOS, but we know why that's the case (anyway, I have the iOS 6 & 7 versions + every new version gets bigger and bigger without any real important features). Most apps do let you update to the latest version without requiring iOS 8.

Not running the latest version of the iOS is not a big deal. How many Android devices are not running Lollipop? Is that a huge problem? I don't think so.

It may surprise people, but iPod touch 5th gen 16GB retains it value quite well for the past 3 years, better than any other iDevice that's 1 year+ older. Thanks largely to Apple not bringing out a newer model. Also, it is still thinner than iPhone 6 and it has retina display (which in today's standard is just on par with mid/low-end Android devices).

The older model (without the back camera) was on special for $177 this time last year. Most apps still run quite well on iPod touch 5th gen. If you jailbreak, you can also get some nice game cheats - e.g. PvZ 2 (with heaps of coins and gems) rather than struggling with those freemium games trying to entice you to spend more money. Last year, at $177, they sold out in hours. I reckon it won't be like that this time though OfficeWorks generally don't stock a lot of these per store.

The CPU may be dated, but the 16GB on board, the screen and the cameras are still good. Unless you really do heavy 3D gaming on the device, most apps definitely run fine. In reality, your wifi Internet speed has a bigger impact on your browsing experience than the CPU.

  • After seeing some parents buying an iPod touch 16GB for their daughter at an Apple store at the RRP, I feel this deal deserves a plus. I really really wanted to tell them about the deal, but the little girl seems so happy to have an iPod touch… plus I am a total stranger to them. My excuse of not having the guts to tell them.

    • don't feel bad. people who are willing to pay apple store's RRP deserve to get reamed.

  • Now that Apple have caught up, in iPhone screen size, what it doing with iPod?

Ie, how nig is its touch screen?

    • 4 inches, this thing is ancient. Apple basically never update the hardware.

      • I'm not surprised… & it seems to force folks to upgrade:

I know people with iPhone 3GS's who can't run recent S/W.

They'd like to migrate to Androic, but
due to big [iTunes] music collections,
they feel "confined" to the very -costly- Apple world(!)

        Sheep, IMO.

        • Apple actually fought the record companies to make iTunes music DRM free. So music shouldn't be an issue. Most key apps are on Android nowadays. Children apps and gaming apps, iOS is still slightly ahead.
