Anyone Knows How Much The Electric / Gas Increased after 1 July 2014 Energy AU? Need Help As Bill Shocked To 200% Increase

Hi OZbargain,

I need some help to solve my high spike bills with Energy Australia. I think i only got the letter from EA saying gas increased 3% and electricity to 1.6%. I tought i could save some money by moving to their new flexi saver which has 15% discount. The new flexi plan (online) is part of TruEnergy and the old plan was NSW. Funny things, they can't search between their own database. Call the staff rep and they can't search my old bill or tell me how much was the increase after 1 July 2014. New bill went crazy from under $100 (i used to pay with 8% gas discount) to $200 (with the 15% flexi plan). I thought the energy rate is regulated by the government. I went to compare online with AGL / origin and their gas rates are the same price. Only EA current website went above them. I live in NSW. Strange isn't it?

Plan to take this further with energy ombussman and just need some help while i am trying to locate the letter that they sent about the increase in around May - June 2014. Note, the original new quoted price from EA was 37 cent and their new current price is 39 cent for cost / mj. AGL and origin both have 37 cent. In addition, the daily charge original quoted price was 51 cent and the current new price is 65 cent. AGL and origina both have 51 cent.

In my previous bill before i signed up new plan, my rate was 32 cent for cost / mj and daily charge was 47 cent. All prices mentioned above are excluded gst price. If someone can help / check. it would be great. EA only blamed us for excessive usage. But, they ignored the fact that their new price is having more 15% increased. They even made it worse by charging us extra 18 days. I am really confused what to do with them. greatly appreciated

    Best to start any correspondence with mj / kw usage figures comparison from previous accounts.
    The first thought that someone might get when you are talking about such a large total bill increase is the consumption or meter reading error, not the rate charged.

    Your meter was read wasn't it? It is not an estimate for some reason? Have seen that happen before.

    Thanks xywolap. My normal bill was normal and nothing abnormal till moving to new plan. Have been paying around $60-$80 for 4 years. The only things that i noticed the rate was higher than the expected quote rate and now asking me to pay $200. Although it has came up a bit higher for the reading due to they charged me extra 18 days rather than expected 90 days cycle.

    That's why i went to this forum and asked anyone. If they know how much is the gas rate increase this year after 1 july 2014 ?

    You may be eligible for a U.R.G. (Utility Relief grant) IF you are a Concession card holder.
    You need to demonstrate that unexpected hardship has left you seriously short of money so that you cannot pay your utility bills without assistance, and risk disconnection or non-supply, and meet one of the following criteria:
    *a significant increase in usage

      Thanks for the information given. Just want to know what is the percentage increase. Just thought it maybe something wrong with the new contract or if EA is doing its own pricing. I knew nsw gas used to regulated price. Strange though

      URGS is only available in Victoria.
