Warranty issue (lack of) with Monster earphones

Hi Oz,

I bought some Monster turbine pero coppers online from a private seller nearly a year ago. They didnt send me a copy of their purchase receipt and now im encountering physical breakdowns of the earphones themselves. Im screwed because although monster provide a lifetime warranty, they will not do this without proof of purchase. I cant get a hold of the seller either but dont suspect they are fake. Any suggestions??

  • They're just dicking with you I'd say. Something like the box or certificate inside will have an individual serial number traceable to the products origins and therefore an estimate sale date, the receipt is really just to get the exact sale date.

  • I believe the consumer law states you need to have proof of purchase from the retailer. Either a receipt or a credit card statement. They would probably want to prove they weren't taken with a five finger discount.

Also keep in mind a 'lifetime' warranty doesn't mean forever. It just covers the expected life of that sort of product. Obviously this time frame could be argued substantially.

  • you do know that the warranty is different if you go directly to the manufacturer right ?
they kinda require the invoice, its not about proof of purchase , its about how much was paid for it , and since you got it from a private seller…

    "Approaching the retailer or manufacturer

The retailer who sold you the product or service cannot refuse to help you by sending you to the manufacturer or importer. You can approach the manufacturer or importer directly, however, you will only be entitled to recover costs from them, which include an amount for reduction in the product’s value and in some cases compensation for damages or loss. You cannot demand a repair, replacement or refund from the manufacturer"

  • Monster Authorized Dealer and Warranty Statement

Monster is firmly committed to providing our customers with best in class, reliable products through authorized dealers. Our policy is to honor product warranties and to perform services only on products purchased from an authorized Monster dealer and only accompanied by a receipt or proof of purchase. If you purchase a Monster product from an unauthorized dealer or if the original factory serial number has been removed, defaced or altered, your Monster warranty will not be valid.

A private seller doesn't sound like an authorized dealer.

    • But i would have all the bells and whistles transferred to me from the original purchaser?

  • I think im out of luck unless i can procure a copy of a receipt. Bugger
