So I went to my usual Caltex Woolworths (Beacon Hill) this week to fill up the car and was pretty darn annoyed to come home and find that I had been charged a 2.5% surcharge. Rang up the service station to check what this surcharge was for and the attendant mentioned that since last week, all Caltex Woolworths service stations now apply the surcharge if you pay by Amex or Motorpass fuel card (I had used the latter). There was no sign up saying that this surcharge was now in place, nor was I informed that the surcharge had been applied when I swiped my card.
Now, I understand if small independent service stations surcharge for Amex or Motorpass but surely not by a chain as big as Caltex Woolworths!? Not happy…guess I'll be filling up elsewhere from now on. Thought I'd post this so others don't get duped, but was also wondering if it really is true that this surcharge now applies to all Caltex Woolworths service stations?
I used my Amex in WA on Wednesday and didn't get a surcharge.
By law, they need to display that they are charging a surcharge.
It's pretty easy, just vote with your feet. They'll get the message.
Shell and BP don't charge.
