EB Games - Free Returns until January 15th - Yay or Nay on Taking Advantage?

It looks like EB Games is allowing Free Returns on purchases until January 15th, in case you purchase the wrong present for someone.

I know that some people like to take advantage of this and essentially use it as a free video game rental service (I personally have never done this).

What I would like to find out, is the OzBargain community's stance on this.

Is it alright to take advantage of this return policy and essentially rent video games free of charge?

Yes - I have no issues with it / already do it with the normal return policy
  • 19
No - It is inconsiderate and results in people purchasing used 'New' games

Meh - It does not bother me either way

Well if people are obviously taking advantage of this, basically using it as free rental, EB games can withdraw this generous policy, so one day when you did actually buy the wrong game, you're stuck with it. Keep in mind that no retail store is legally obligated to offer exchange or refunds for change of minds.

    • I believe that they did this last year as well. They probably take the stance that this is a good selling point, and that only a small minority of people will take advantage.

    • They charge ~$90 per new title for a reason. They've priced the probability you will abuse their policy.

      • yeah, they give u credit anyway
so they will get u eventually

        • You can receive either a refund or a store credit for the 7 day satisfaction guarantee. Cannot find any different terms and conditions for the above offer.

        • @Mark-F: You cant just assume its the same for the above offer either though.

        • I know, you would need to confirm prior. I have no interest in doing this.

Surely they could not go on to resell the returned game as new as hinted at in your poll?

Yet they do for the 7-Day policy.

    • They do. If the game is not returned in "as-new" condition, then they will refuse the return.

      • But 'as-new' is still not 'new'.

        • Don't they generally remove the disks and keep them behind the counter? If the game has been opened but it not damaged in any way, I don't think a purchaser will be able to tell the difference?

        • It is not, just saying what they do.

        • @ilikeradiohead: Most people would not notice, and they likely put returned games through the disc cleaner before reselling.

  • I try to make my policy that I only take back colossal turd games that are in no way worth the money, or something that I finished in 6 hours and will NEVER play again. I really don't think that's "Taking advantage" of the system.

I know a guy who used the system so much that the actual employees pulled him out on this and said "Look mate, we're not a library." and stopped him taking a couple things back. Don't ask me if that's actually legal to refuse a refund or not.

  • Why would you act like you dont use this service. Especailly when its their own service?
I will be taking back black ops 4 for full refund. It took a week or so,but damn i do not like this game at all.so many gadgets and ways to die. Ill stick to BFV at least i can unlock new weapons.
BO4 feels like microstransaction city. And everything is locked behind a pay wall.
