Cost of Returning an Item Overseas

I bought a fitness tracker from everbuying.com to compare with my Fitbit, out of curiosity.
It turns out that the tracker doesn't work, the lights do turn on and it can also sync with my phone, but the pedometer clearly doesn't work because after syncing it's always 0 steps.

Contacted them and they wanted me to return the item, and they will give me a refund.

Problem now is, returning the item will cost almost $20 if I go with a shipping method with tracking, and the tracker was only $35.

Is it worth the hassle to return the item?
If I open a Paypal dispute, is anything going to be different?
Can I just return it using Airmail? (Airmail has no tracking)

  • right now you are down 35, spend 20 more and you get 15 back, up to you.
skip on tracking at your own risk , you could spend 20 more and get zero back.

  • Foolish to pay that to return. Log a complaint with PP as item was faulty.
If it fails you only lost $35, it could have been more. Remember the lesson.

The sellers know full well that it costs almost the full price to return the item so some of them do make a business out of dumping failed items on the OS market.

Usual problem when ordering things like this OS… expensive to return, no warranty, no consumer rights.
Best to buy things over $2 here, at least you know that what you get will work or get replaced/refunded.

  • +1

Explain to them that how much it'll cost to send back the useless item and if they wanted the faulty item back, they must pay for it since it's clearly not your fault. Reason with them, tell them the unit is faulty, they should send you a replacement, one that's working or give you a full refund. It's not fair on you that you're having to go through problems like this etc.. If the seller is not reasonable, then you should put in a claim with PayPal, clearly explain the reason why you shouldn't be responsible for the return shipping & hopefully PayPal will tell you not to worry about sending back the faulty item. Good luck!

  • TQS… The seller knows that the cost of return from here is expensive, that is why some of these places dump their faulty stock here.
He has already tried communicating with them and their reaction is negative so all he can do now is lodge a complaint with ebay or paypal.

A couple of times I have had dud products like this and the supplier just sent out a replacement and apologised. That is the difference between an ebay con artist and a honest seller.

  • I contacted them again to see if they'd be ok to send a replacement. Otherwise I'll need to try Paypal…though I think PayPal usually just tells the buyer to return the item. I could however try using the excuse of can't be sent out with battery. (Which is 100% true, unless I use DHL or FedEx.)

  • Takes photos and video of it definitely not working and send them through to help your case.
