How do you consume Netflix / Hulu / Amazon Prime in Australia?

Hey everyone,

I am interested to hear how everyone primarily consumes services like Netflix / Hulu / Amazon Prime.

e.g. I primarily access them on my Xbox One, thinking about getting a Roku though.

Is there a particular device that you feel offers the best user experience with some of these services?

    I only use Hulu Plus.

    • GetFlix for DNS stuff
    • Hulu Plus Subscription. Got cheap 1 year pass from guy on eBay.
    • Chromecast - Plays all the vids on tv.

We are more TV watchers so Hulu is better for us. I used to watch Hulu Plus on XBMC but the plugin no longer works so had to find different way to watch on tv. Using a browser on the PC was too fiddily.

Works great. Ads are annoying especially as they are the same ads over and over but they keep adding loads of new content.

    • Hi Neil. Did you buy something like this on ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HULU-PLUS-12-Months-Subscription-…? Not sure what to look for exactly! Thanks

      • Yeah. I paid $30US and the guy was from Poland. He is no longer selling the cards. From what I recall I think they bundle these 12 month Hulu subs with TVs, DVDs etc and sellers tend to sell them off.

There are some reports of some codes being dodgy where they will be accepted by Hulu but then later on, they will flag the code and will ask you for the seller. However, they leave your subscription intact for good will.

Haven't had any issues and have been running it for a few months now.

        • Sounds like the guy where I got my Hulu gift card from … I havent had any problems with it but you do need to be careful who you buy them off.

  • Sounds like a good setup, I just switched over from Unblock-us to Getflix today, using the below deal.

The ads on Hulu Plus are a bit distracting, thinking about giving the service another try though.

  • Can't beat a HTPC. It does everything well and there's no compatibility problems.

  • Clicked on +other - I consume with my eyes.
Agree with Mark F - Hulu unfit for human consumption.

Question: How is Australia's broadband going to cope when Netflix gains momentum here ?
Any idea how much bandwidth Netflix uses in US - over 30% of all household internet traffic.

    • Supposedly 200,000 Australians are signed up to Netflix. I really hope we learn from the US/net neutrality and don't get stuck into potentially tiered Internet.

I add bit of salt and chilli with Netflix 'cos I think they are usually too bland. Depending on my mood or the content, I sometimes pick up red wine, beer or maybe Diet pepsi for the drink.

I don't really enjoy Hulu, I think it has too many rotten nut pieces in the form of those annoying ads.

I finally mix them all up on my PC, tablet, android phone or Chromecast, shake it well, then chill before serving.

  • I use:

    Netflix using Boxee or WDTVLive
    HULU PLUS using WDTV Live
HULU using Boxee (via Bartsidee Repository)
CRACKLE TV on the Sony Smart TV

Also using ECHO TV for movie streaming
And havent cracked open the Apple TV as yet.

Would love to get Netflix running on my LG Smart TV (aparently it needs US Firmware)

  • with some fava beans and a nice chianti..

  • Fetch TV has been hinting about a possible partnership with Netflix, when responding to comments on their Facebook page.

This would have to scare Foxtel at least a little, if true..

  • I use unblockus and a PS3 using a US playstation account. Works well.
