Need a Decent Vacuum Cleaner, Advice Needed

I have always just purchased a Vacuum from a Department Store for around the $100 mark.
Currently I have this
Have owned it for 6 months and it is just not getting the job done carpets are not getting clean and hair is sticking to the carpet I have pets that are indoors often so pet hair does get into the carpet often.
I was looking at the Dyson range at Big W but am completely clueless I have seen people on here discussing different models but not sure what would suit me.

I probably will vacuum twice a week in a 3 bedroom house.

This reddit thread is worth a read; even though he's American, and the discussion is generally US-centric, he gives quite good advice. We've bought a Miele on his recommendation and can say that we're very happy with the purchase!

I bought a Samsung SC4790 from the Good Guys a few months back after owning a Dyson, and it's great. Has great suction and does a good job. It was around $150.

  • The last Samsung vacuum we had lasted exactly 13 months and went up in smoke. It had little use and warranty was refused.

Had many vacuum cleaners in our time, they ranged from just ok to absolute garbage… until a few years ago when we bought a Miele. Cannot fault it in any way. It is a bagged 2200w model and whilst buying bags can be a deterrent it does make emptying very easy, a lot easier than the bagless that we have owned. Bags are available online at a good price.

Miele claim they are designed and built to last at least 20 yrs and I believe them.

Be careful of Miele's from Godfreys. The ones I have seen are down specced to meet a price and made just for Godfreys. Buy from major elec retailers only.

Do a search on whirlpool for more info, one such thread here… http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2289621
