NEW Years Eve 2014 Celebration

Dear Oz Bargain Community,

Please consider my question for GD only and I am new to the community so please be gentle and generous with your comments!

I am in dire need, looking for 1-night accommodations or some suggestions for Ideal venues for the New Year’s Eve 2014. I know I am late but there were reasons behind the delay(prefer not to spill here).

Read on and see what my situation looks like:
•I have a rare opportunity to bring my family this year from overseas over the Christmas/New Year Period – Once in many years, so want to make the most of it!
•I have young family so going to this event with kids and finding free spots is a BIG Challenge in itself.
•Every Hotel/accommodation is either booked out or heavily priced
•Some Ticketed Venues (Vantage Points) are far away for the scene anyways and getting there is another hassle

Please feel free to give me ideas worth exploring or venues which are easy to reach from Western Sydney .

Don't want to sit home and watch on TV , I really want to be there with my Family.

Many Thanks in advance!

  • you don't specifically mention it, but I assume you are talking about Sydney NYE fireworks here?

    • Yes I missed giving the basic info, it is Sydney indeed

  • Luna park is supposed to be good. Has a mixture of rides to keep small kids entertained and is right on the harbour. Not sure about price, you will need to google it.

    • Tickets on sale starting from $199pp and only over 18 allowed :(

  • What is GD?

    • The NATO designation for the toxic chemical soman.

  • +1

Well i'm not sure what your budget is but the night is pretty big in Sydney so it will be expensive pretty much anywhere you stay. You can try airbnb which might be a bit cheaper but still quite high really.

    • Thanks all. I rest my case here because I have looked around pretty much everywhere and its unbelievably priced.

  • Does anyone know how long it takes to get from the opera house to central station after the fireworks?

    • I'm pretty sure circular quay station is closed before and after the fireworks. Last year we walked it Martin place station - it took about 30 minutes (it was quite crowded). Instead of going towards central which was so packed we got on a train going to kings cross and the doubled back.
Two advantages- one we got a seat and two when we got back to Martin place people who were standing in front of us on the platform towards central still didn't get on the train that we did.

      • That's not too bad, thank you so much!!
