Yeah, just got the same email.

    Sounds great.

Does anybody know if UberX provides car capsules in Perth?

    • +2

I think you're hoping for a bit much. Not even taxis provide baby capsules/child restraints.

      • +1

Swan Taxis provide a car with a baby capsule if you ring them up. Have used this service numerous times. Though I do understand why Uber doesnt.

I'm seriously thinking about leaving my car at home this week and catching uberX to work and back.
5 rides will get me to work but another 5 rides using my wife's email address would surely suffice to get me home?

Anyone dare me to do it? I'll post pics. (Not of my wife, sorry)

    • +1

I am sure you would not be the only person with this idea, securing a ride during peak times is going to be a lottery at best.

      • Which is why it would be great to hear back about someone's actual experience trying this! Do it, bonezAU!

    • Even just do the 5 and take Public transport home. I've been meaning to try Uber and this promotion is certainly going to make me give it a shot! 6am UberX pickup here I come.

    • How far does $50 get you?

      • Far enough to get me to work :)

      • Got uber from Wellington street outside underground to the Luxe Bar in Northbridge it was about $25.
Also from Luxe bar to san churros [got lost a few minutes] was about the same. Hope that helps.

        • Wouldn't it be quicker to walk this rather than wait for uber and risk the traffic?

        • Thats like 1.5KM.

    • +1

Thinking of doing a similar thing. Lost my Smartrider over the weekend so the timing of this promo is perfect.

Update: Just tried to get one from Dianella with no luck. Looks like demand is going to far outweigh supply this week. On the bus I go :(

  • Yeah go for it. Especially if you dont have an exact time that you need to be at work. Just remember, now that you've posted it on OzBargain, expect the demand to be higher than usual, which means that the cars may not be available "on demand"

    • +5

now that you've posted it on OzBargain

Cause none of us got an email about it at all… :P

This could be handy, got my work party this weekend in the city, without having to pay for a taxi it'll end up being a completely free night.

  • Very limited area though. Only the areas around Cottlesloe and that stretch all the way to the city. edit: or am i reading that map wrongly?

    • But you can take an uber wherever you want, just have to get in within the blue area.

  • +1

How far does this get someone from Terminal 2? Perhaps to the undergroud station in the city? lol

    • +2

That jerk arrested an innocent hire car driver with proper credentials according to police.

    • +1

He said he was going to arrest a new driver everyday but obviously he was full of it.

  • How do you book in advance? Or can you only book 10mins before hand?

  • Nm. So would you have to make the booking after 6am or does it count from when the driver arrives?

  • You guys should know, using your car as a "taxi" (ie UberX) without a commercial licences will void your insurance.
They will not pay out any claims if they find you've been a UberX driver.

    • +5

Uber provides their own insurance if you're on a ride.

  • Interesting, have to get from CBD to Airport on Sunday arvo. Would $50 fare get me from CBD to Airport?

    • +2

If you don't think it will, get out of the car half way through and order another one. The same driver could even pick you up, as the algorithm would see him as the closest.

    • Uber estimates it to be about $33-$44 depending on traffic and weather from the CBD to the airport using UberX.

Uber Black is a flat rate of $75 but is not covered under this promo.

    • Well, it costs around $28 for the existing taxi services to get from the CBD to the airport (ie Swan or B&W), so $50 should be more than enough [maybe stop of at a Swan Valley vineyard first ;-) ]

    • Thanks for the help guys.

@ticket65 - Already loaded up with spirits from Christmas Island!

  • +1

This would be an awesome time to be an uber driver. It's going to be surge pricing all week due to the demand and most passengers are going to try and go on long rides to take advantage of the $50 value.

  • mmm Dont really catch many taxis but this is a great deal!

    Chair = Sniff

    • What did it smell like?

  • … don't have a credit card.. damn.

    • Dont know about Android, but the iphone app has Paypal support.

  • +1

I used that $40 credit with Uber Black last week to get to the domestic airport for a 5am departure. Lovely black Mercedes SUV.
The cost from Yokine was $53 less the $40. Bargain!

Will give Uber X a bit of a whirl this week.

  • So cannot get a car from Gooseberry Hill? Do they have a limited service area?

  • Did any body tried this free ride option?? how does the payment option works for free ride?

  • What is the difference between all these different "uber" services? I'm confused…

    • +11

UberX = some dude with a recentish car, driver calls you mate.
UberBlack = proper small charter vehicle, driver wears fancy hat and calls you sir.

  • +1

Used it twice today …two free $30 trips…awesome!

    • when u used it, driver didn't ask for the payment?? how did it worked?

      • The driver never has to ask for payment, the fares are automatically charged through the app.

        • So you need data on your phone to track your journey? So, I won't be able to use if I'm out of data?

        • +1

@gddg: The drivers phone will track the journey. If you order the uber from somewhere with wifi then having no data shouldn't be a problem.

  • Perth representtttttt

  • Never used UberX before, is there a limit to passengers? IE looking to head into town this Saturday with 3 others, would the one booking cover that?

    • +1

Yep. Did that yesterday. Free trips for the 4 of us. Awesome!

      • Thanks, tried it out myself last night, got into Perth ok but demand was too high at night and when I eventually got one the ride back ended up being $200.
        Doh!

        • Just to update this status, I contacted Uber about the $203 fare and they refunded me $122 this morning! Freaking sweet!
If anyone else got hit up with high fares during this promotion I'd recommend they do the same.
          This service rocks!

  • How much of a commission do these drivers get charged by the company on their normal fares with UberX?

  • how safe is uber for late night travel? is the drivers identity recorded anywhere?

    • of course

  • I couldn't find clear steps to take to use this deal.

I signed up and confirmed my details.
For example if I have to go from A to B I have to make sure to spend less than $50 right? Then do I get charged on my credit card or magically it doesn't even show up?

    • +1

If you cross more than $50 then you have to pay that exes only. if your fare is less than $50, it shows you $0.00. and you will get a receipt in your nominated email address.

I was about to walk to the train station then remembered this.

Somehow I ended up getting a uber black, maybe I didn't use the app correctly.

Anyway maybe I was lucky maybe it was because it was because it was a black but the guy turned up in 6 minutes and I watched him drive to my place in the app. He rocked up in a black merc SUV with SCV plates got out, opened the door for me, offered me mints (I am not sure if he was being friendly or my breath was stinking up his merc but it was appreciated anyway). Carlisle to the CBD came to $31 minus $20 uber credit which I never knew I had.

The same taxi journey would have cost $25 plus the cabcharge rort fee because I am allergic to cash and I proudly stepped out of a merc at Perth train station rather than the usual white falcon I sport.

I would have been more than happy to pay $30 for this service even though I thought it was going to be free. My neighbours will now think I am a saudi price which is priceless and I am now greatly respected by the loiterers at Perth train station.

All for just $11. Sorry taxi drivers but its over.

  • So this was disappointing. Just tried to use the app for 30 mins to get me and the gf home… Nothing for 30 mins, from Williams st… Great!
