Best Laptop/Notebook for Approx $500

Hi guys!

So I already own a pretty decent PC which I can play my games on, but as a Uni student I'm also looking for something reliable, portable and light yet able to decently play certain games incase I decide to have a gaming sessions at a friends place.

My price range is preferably $500, and the lower the better as I'm on a tight budget. However I am wililng to pay a bit more depending on the benefits.

I've looked at what places like harvey norman and jb hifi have for sale and I'm just unsure as to which brands I can actually trust and how well they can perform.

Any suggestions?

At the $500 mark, every brand puts out plasticky monsters. You would be better to buy second hand or refurbished if that is your budget.

  • Hey guys, thanks for the comments. I do get what you guys mean but for a computer for documents and simple gaming (by that I mean games which don't require excellent graphics) is it necessary to be spending more than $500-$600?

I will definitely consider getting refurbrished ones, I totally forgot to check on them.

Also thanks MasterScythe, I'll add that to my considerations.

  • the key action is very shallow, but I got used to it pretty quick when trying it out at MSY

I just bought from Dell Outlet refurbished one. Just need to refresh it everyday. Inspiron is cheaper than Latitude.

I bought yesterday for my niece for $379 for an i5-4200, basic laptop. Expected delivery is next week. I'll let you know.

If your budget is $500, you can get i7 inspiron or i5 latitude.
