Very average price. I sell similar units a work and anything with a DVD player instantly has a much higher failure rate. Newer units have modular DVD drives so they can be removed for servicing without affecting the whole TV but given the price of a DVD player these days I would not like them inbuilt unless I was space saving to the maximum.
Not a particularly good deal (maybe there are other specials, I'm just referring to the 26" LCD). A good deal would be something like $499 inc. shipping.
How often do the combo TV/DVDs fail (relative to a straight non DVD TV)?
I recall with a particular NEC TV we had DOA units out of the box. Like, I put one on display - dead. Unpacked a replacement - dead. They were woeful. Probably why NEC left the Australian market.
Things have improved lately, with the modular DVD player (you can remove the DVD player from the TV for servicing), but I don't have hard numbers on the long term failure rates. I know manufacturers often only give 1 year warranty as opposed to 3 years on the non-DVD models.
I agree the Aldi one is well priced. JB Hi-Fi is selling a 16" combo TV/DVD for $288, so the extra screen size for $11 is good.
Kogan products are regular reviewed by independent journalists. Please take some time to read our media page here: http://www.kogan.com.au/media-news/
Negative for me.
JB Hi-Fi have the same size LCD with a inbuilt DVD player for $498.
The P&H, for the TV in this posting, is $47.43 to my Sydney address from Kogan.
Kogan states on the page you linked to:
"Best Value LCD TVs in Australia GURANTEED"
Well I brought a new TV a few months ago, and Kogan's price for the SAME SPEC TV I ended up buying (I checked the same day before I brought a TV) WAS MORE then the price I paid (and that was before they even wanted 40 odd dollars for delivery), so I don't believe their claim about being the best value.
Kogan also seems to list many items with delivery dates in the future (that is the item comes IN STOCK in the future then its shipped to the customer even later).
The TV in this posting states on the website: "IN STOCK NOW!" as opposed to say "PRESALE ON NOW! - EXPECTED DISPATCH DATE 30TH OCTOBER" (see http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/kogan-1080p22-full-hd-1080p-lcd…).
Kogan seems to be in the media a lot but I think most of what I read about the company and the founders is PR fluff and don't really trust them nor their badged products.
I have read some bad reviews about Kogan's bad products (bad build and flimsy plastic on a netbook for instance).
