Help me find a recent Android 6" phone with removable battery

I'm in the market to buy a phablet, but with one rather odd requirement — it needs to have a removable battery.

I've looked at the Sony T2 Ultra and Z Ultra as possible candidates but they don't have a removable battery and no replacement parts show up on my Google searches.

The ASUS Zenfone 6 also does not have a removable battery as it is tightly integrated into the chassis.

This leaves me with the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8, 6.3 and Mega 2 series as the only branded options I can think of.

I'm highly considering the Mega 2 though it is rather pricey at $409

I'm after the required specs

Quad core
More than a gig of RAM
At least 8GB of internal memory
SD card expansion
at least 720p display

price perhaps between $200 to $300.

Any ideas?

  • 2nd hang Samsung note 2 with a zerolemon 9000mamp battery… That's what I've got, lasts two days using it all the time easy. Doubt you'll get that for $200 though. Or anything for that matter…

  • Asus zenfone 6 is a good choice for the price there check ebay

    • I've already looked at Zenfone 6, it isn't what I'm after. Would rather get a Sammy.

  • Not quite 6inch LG G3?

Ahem Ahem - I always look for #scrimshaw 's comments if I need any technical information/clarifications or comparisons.
So its kind of awkward to see even my "Guru" is asking for information :) :)

@scrimshaw - I'm confident that you have covered all the ground and their is no current alternatives other than your search result…

PS. I would have picked LG G Flex but they again it is expensive and has non-removable battery…
PS 2. What happened to your LG G2?

It's a phone for a senior with far sightedness. Hence the big display and low price criteria.

The reason it needs to have removable battery is because they intend to use it for a fairly long time before upgrading, so I intend to buy a spare battery as well when the original one degrades.

      • But a 7" tablet? I know the battery won't be replaceable though… But might be more likely you can get one in that price range, all the nexus 7 deals floating around….

        • There aren't many choices though, Nexus 7 doesn't make phone calls on GSM.. I know there's Fonepad 7 series which can make phone calls but the bezels are pretty big. I'll have to ask the old man to see if he's OK with a 7 inch device.

      • Kogan used to sell LG G Pro 2 and Pro 2 Lite - but can't find them anymore
They have 5.9 inch display though - otherwise ticks all your requirements

Found DWI is currently selling LG G2 Pro for $419 - which has better spec than Samsung Mega 2

EGlobal is also selling LG G Pro 2 for $395

        • Cheers.

Am now looking at a Lenovo S930 which comes to around $200 AUD delivered. Very good price but main downside is the 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM, and the single band 3G.

  • Not a "brand" phone as you required but seems to be a good option for around $250 AUD delivered. and has removable battery as well as big 7"inch screen

A google search shows this is an OEM tablet which goes by other names as well, but this seems to be the cheapest around.

  • china droid $266.43 AUD from chinavasion

    Specs at a Glance…
    7 Inch 1980x1200 display
    1.7 GHz MTK6592 processor
    2GB RAM
    ROM:(internal + external) 16GB, up to 32GB

  • I don't recommend the 2 Chinese tablet/phone mentioned by OpayuOnam and altomic. (They are actually the same tablet by the way)
I got one for $200 when it just came out a few months ago, the problem with this tablet is that it's got a really slow touch screen, definitely one of the slowest I've used, even though the MT6592 CPU is good, the slowness of the touch screen makes the tablet really really slow. There are also patches on the screen that touch doesn't work, so sometimes swiping doesn't work if I do it more quickly. The screen resolution and color accuracy are pretty damn good though.

    • Hi I ordered the Mlais M81 for 240aud the shipping fee was very little as i had a lot more items in the same purchase buut normally just for the phone is 18aud. Mine arrived a few days ago (purchased through banggood with expedited shipping took around 9 days).
Just wanted to reflect that I don't have the screen slowness issue. And the entire screen is very responsive. Mine came with the latest firmware found on needrom so if you are on an older ROM try updating it.
The good things so far are: battery life, screen quality (amazing for this price, even better than my more expensive tablet), speed wise is very good no lags so far. Almost as fast as my g2 but not as good when it comes to gaming. Also I like the ROM that came with it has some nice small touches such as startup app allowance, app premission manager and etc.
The bad: Main thing that botters me is that it heats up around the camera area only after a few minutes of use, even light usage can mak3 it warm to the touch. It would be nice if you could tell ne if thi exists on your model as well clse945111. The other thing is the camera, even though it is meant to be 14mp I feel like it is only 5mp colours are good but not sharp at all and impossible to take ohoots of documents unless you go closeup. And the last annoyance is the capaciitve toufh buttons which are NOT BACKLIT meaninng very frustrating to use at night, hence rooting and putting on screen buttons and disabling the hardware ones is the only way to go for night usage. Haven't fully tested gps yet I will report back on that tonighh.
If you hav the s view coverith screen protector don't expect any responsiveness from the sview window specially in the corners.
Also make sure to disable the clear the motion video as it makes movies have jumps similar to the tv artifacts wit low frequency panels.
