  • Would it be better to grab this or a Galaxy Tab S? Is the AMOLED screen worth the extra $$$

    • YES! I have a Galaxy Tab S 10" and it's the most beautiful screen I've EVER seen! It defines the benchmark for a screen! It's like this is how photos should have looked since their creation but no one ever developed a screen that could do them justice. It's just amazing really! The clarity, colour depth, detail, brightness, everything!
Go see it in store. Once you see it, you will want it on your tablet! And it isn't just the stock photos it makes look amazing. Even the fairly average shots I took on my DSLR have absolutely come alive on this screen. I'm not exaggerating, it really is that good! Apple retina pales in comparison

      • Yes, that screen. I have not touch my Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 since I got the Tab S, if the next Note have the Super Amoled screen, it will be the best combination.

    • +1

Get Note only if you really want to make use of the stylus.

  • or ipad air 2???

    • iPad Air 2 LTE is $779, How is that any comparison to this?

      • -1

        cos it's ipad 2…

thinner, lighter, more resell-able and newer than samsung

        apple brand

        • iPad Air 2 has some nice features, but if we want to get nitty 299ppi (Note 10.1 2014) vs 264ppi (iPad Air 2). Also no wacom digitiser on the iPad Air 2, so catering for some slightly different markets there.

Also Samsung's Multi Window enhances productivity and multitasking and is something I haven't seen implemented as well on other consumption tablet devices (bar LG and Sony to an extent - and other rooting options).

  • I bought a 'factory reconditioned' non-4G version of this a few months ago for ~$300. It's good, but there's no way I'd pay $600 for it.

    • Holy hell where did you get a reconditioned one from for only $300?

  • Depends what you will use it for I guess. I have the 2013 note for uni (actually a few students in our course have this now) and they are absolutely brilliant for taking lecture notes directly onto pdfs because of the pen. I still prefer having a laptop or desktop at home to type assignments on but this is all I take to uni now and it works really well.

    • you prefer taking notes by hand?

      I prefer typing it…

if u make a mistake, you can quickly delete/retype
      also copy and paste..
and more easy to read as well.

      • Depends what course you do. I wouldn't want to try typing a 4x4 Matrix in word or drawing a graph in paint.

        • why would u draw a graph in paint?

I am sure there are graphing software you can use

And there is probably software to do the 4 x 4 matrix

        • @tyler.durden: there is, e.g. Matlab, Maple, LateX perhaps. However the point is that using a pen and paper (or stylus with an active digitiser in this case) is much easiar and faster.

The advantage of using a tablet or computer to take these notes with a stylus over pen and paper is that they are all in a digital format and easiar to keep track of/search/etc. The disadvantage may be limiting screen real estate or a differing writing experience.

  • I just thought of something though, I'm not sure if it's changed but on the 2013 note you can't save apps to sd card which is immensely frustrating.. although I have the 16gb too and I just put games on my phone instead and it has been big enough.

  • 12.2 is $750 @ jb (minus the free $150 jb voucher)

  • Not bad for 4G but 16gb should become obsolete next year

  • how do android tablet specific apps compared to ipad apps?

Are there as many tablet specific apps? or are they mainly upscaled phone apps
