Buying Steam Wallet from EB Games

Hi everyone, firstly I wasn't sure where to put this but I felt my question will be most appropriate for the gaming section of the forums.

I am planning to use my Westfields gift cards I bought earlier this or late last year (I think it was from scoopon) to buy steam wallet credit from EB games. This might be a silly question but will that work? It would be like using a gift card to buy another gift card.

It would work. But, the best way to buy through steam, in my opinion, is to buy a Prepaid Mastercard, such as Woolworths. Or a regular credit card, I guess :3

Because! EB Has a markup on steam credit, and you end up paying more for the games you want.

    • Oh wow! Didn't know they did mark ups :(

Do you know by how much though? I mean I bought the westfields gift cards for half their prices. So technically I paid $10 for a $20 gift which still works out in my favour if the mark ups aren't really high. Just I'm sick of tired of paying for international transaction fees and currency conversion eating up money using my credit card.

      Thanks!

      • I believe a $50 steam credit is $59.99 at EB.

However, I don't know how exchange rates work with these cards. I am not affiliated with EB and also don't buy the cards frequently enough to have a surefire understanding of what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the heads up mate. Ahhhhhh I thought I could get away from all the fees but I guess I'll have to use my cards elsewhere :L

Edit: I called them up just then (should have done that in the first place LOL) and they said the $20 steam wallet is $23, $50 is $57 and the $100 is $112 because they are in USD. I guess the $23 isn't so bad but I'm not sure if it's worth it anymore… (though considering our currency conversion rate on the other hand, I would have to pay it anyway using the gift cards or not…)

        • @watty:
Exactly, it's not really a markup. It's just the dollar. When the dollar was stronger, it was cheaper via EB than Valve.

        • @watty: Those prices are better than the current exchange rate, plus you won't need to pay any foreign currency fees.

I might go in tomorrow for $50 worth.

          Cheers.

    • I haven't used these cards, but keep in mind you are buying Steam credit, which is USD, but you are paying AUD for it. If you bought a game for $20USD on Steam atm using a credit card, you'd pay a tad more than $23AUD.
