$US97 discount on 1 year DreamHostb webhosting

AMBROSE

Hi All

Dreamhost has a thing where you can set up a discount code that cuts into your affiliate payment to give discounts to others.

The discount code AMBROSE takes off my whole affiliate payment so you only pay something like $US22 for the account, which is an absolutely sensational deal. I don't get anything out of it so take it or leave it, but $2/mo for 5TB bandwidth, one free domain, unlimited added domains and 500Gb diskspace, and rising every month, is hard to beat.

The code is only valid if you select to sign up for a one year account.

  • This one sounds almost like affiliate marketing. "Use this coupon and you'll get the discount!" (and I will get some kickback too). Too bad the previous coupon code directly from DreamHost has already expired.

Well, I will not remove this one (as I too have advertised my own promo code before), but since DreamHost's $97 is everywhere and can be easily created, I will remove all future DreamHost deals posted here that are not directly from DH themselves.

  • Hey Scott, I don't get any kickback at all on this mate.

  • You sure? :) If you are not sure, then the answer is — you will get kick back from DreamHost. Not directly, but via secondary referrals.

I have written an article on DreamHost promo code on my other blog looking in details on how it actually works (yes, Josh Jones is a marketing genius). It is a bit dated but still applies:

Now tell me why there are so many user-created $97 back coupon codes on the net if there is no financial incentive at all? :)

  • Hey Scott

Well as far as I know I don't get anything for it. I had no idea about secondary referrals.

I thought people do it to get kudos from others…

That's part of the reason why I did it lol :D

Ok I have just checked it out and there is secondary referrals. Sorry, I had no idea! And I thought maybe people were just .. nice? I forgot it was the internet.

Delete if you want. Still a good deal tho.

BTW If you post affiliate links I don't see anything bad about that, it's your site after all.

  • PS yes that dude is a marketing genius…

  • Hi Jonk,

I actually have no problem with affiliate marketing — I am paying the same price anyway regardless whether someone is getting the commission. EXCEPT if I am actually paying more when someone is getting the commission, or in the case with MoneyBackCo and other moneyback/cashback sites, that I can actually get the commission back!

That is why it is possible post affiliation links here, but it won't be a good bargain especially when other affiliates like MBC can rebate the full commission back.

In the case of Dreamhost and $97 discount coupon code, it is doing exactly that. Anyone can create those $97 discount coupons to give the commission back to new users, and you actually cannot find a cheaper way to buy hosting from DreamHost (unless it is a coupon code directly from DH).

So I think the $97 discount coupon code by itself qualifies a good deal. Yes, the discount code owner gets $5 for every secondary referral, but that's another story.

My problem with posting DreamHost coupon code here in OzBargain is, however, that $97 discount code is just too easy to create! You don't even need to be a DreamHost customer to create coupon codes! I don't want to see this site flooded with DH coupon codes even though they all represent "good deal".

I'll leave this deal here — but let me say "no more DreamHost $97 discount coupons" :) I'll continue to post coupon codes directly from DH though.

  • Fair enough Scott

By the way when I go to make a comment it automatically puts my URL at the bottom. I guess that's part of the system. Is it ok to leave it there each time? So far I have been kind of alternating

  • Even just going to the Dreamhost homepage will give you a better deal than this - $110.10 off.

    • Thanks! That's a good deal that I am looking for! The previous official coupon code expired and they have changed it to something that is easier to type :)
