Best portable air conditioner for the money-- recommendations on brand?

I just got a Kogan flyer & had a look at theirs. Seem good for the price (250-300 range).

What I have is a rental where the only A/C is in the front lounge. It "barely" cools that + the adjacent open-plan kitchen area.

From there, the hallway runs front to back of the house on the side opposite the A/C (walk in front door, lounge kitchen on right, hallway to BRs on left). The front master BR can stay sort of cool if you plant a fan at the doorway, pointed in, to try to move some of that A/C that direction—-> but the two rear BR's get hot.

First issue is the exhaust- which means finding a window that has enough space near it to house the giant things!

Second is the exhaust water— if placed in either the 2nd or master BR, we'd have to try to send the water up & out a window.

So, not the best set-up for A/C. The very rear BR is my son's- he has one of these I got last year at Red Dot. Not bad, but LOUD & even though we wrapped bubble wrap & insulated the exhaust hose- that seems to add so much heat to the room…(he has a sliding door, so the water can vent out)

Is there anything good out there? Or different/better?

Ta!

    • Can you elaborate on how this works on a daily, summer basis? Certainly, you must have to empty excess water pulled from the room?

Is this sold now in WA?

Just checking mail- I can google but if you have the links, better.

      Thank you

I realise this is a bit of an old post just wanted to add that my understanding is that all evapourative type air coolers (such as the mentioned Honeywell one) are only effective in dry conditions. They are not effective in humid contitions.

    • this is probably a stupid question but what is or how do you determine whether you are living in humid or dry conditions… would humid be like the mountains katoomba area? or like just when it is very rainy and / or foggy.. dry i can kind of tell… because it is so dry right now.

      • you are Sydney, it is a humid area. dry is outback Australia. Dont buy an evaprotive cooler, they do not cool anywhere along coastal Australia at all. You have to buy a refridgerated air conditioner and the portable ones simly do not work well.

  • we are in dry conditions so perfectly fits

    • sydney is not a dry city, it doesnt mean rainfall it is the humidity.
