Comprehensive Car Insurance Quote - Youi

I finally decided to get Insurance for my car, a 2005 XC Barina, I checked a few places online including AAMI and RACV and they were both very expensive. My mum has 2 cars and house and contents insurance with Youi so I asked her to call them to try and get insurance under her name but with me as the main driver.

After a lot of haggling and stuff the best they could do was ~$52/month with $725 excess.

I did a bit more online searching and found that Budget Direct is slightly cheaper at $50/month $800 excess, the guy claimed to me that the insurance offered by Budget was slightly different as they covered less things.

Is this true or was the guy just trying to make a sale? Is it possible I can find a cheaper price for comprehensive insurance?

  • So I've been shopping around for 3rd party, fire and theft but the cheapest I've gotten so far is ~$30 which is only $20 cheaper than comprehensive.

    So far I've checked:

    AAMI
    RACV
    Budget
    Elliot Insurance
    Progressive
    Allianz
    Youi

I've avoided Coles and Woolies as It seems like they will do everything possible to avoid paying out.

    • Out of your list, definitely go with Allianz unlesss they are lot more expensive than others.
They are one of the best in the business with best product.
if you read the PDS, you will notice slight variation from insurer to insurer and these will come back to haunt you when the time comes to lodge your claim.

People have spent time here giving you insights, how about something back rather than a generic statement.

I've read thru all the posts and see a couple of comments about these two, but equally same comments about other "budget" and normal providers

While some say they offer budget rates so therefor must cut corners, if you look at the "big" players they are all advertising big time in the media, and that is a cost that many of the cheaper players don't always incur.

So can you give us some more insight that you seem to have.

    • It's not just this thread, there are a few other places where people mention that they're to be avoided. And just out of curiosity i tried to get a woolworths quote but because I've had the car longer than 30 days they want me to call them.

Edit: And I just ticked that yes I had only purchased the car in the last 30 days and the cost per month for 3rd party without fire and theft was $29.76 with a $800 excess. So much for being cheaper.
