Not sure on how these actually perform in terms of picture and smarts, but this seems the cheapest available atm on these models (from my quick price search on google).

50" deal - http://www.binglee.com.au/hisense-50k390pad-50-fhd-3d-led-tv

Quick specs for both:

Hisense 3 year factory warranty
4 x HDMI
3 x USB
100hz
Built in WiFi - Android/Google Smart TV

Delivery might kill this deal for those not near a Bing Lee store, but with a bit of asking and haggling you should be able to get competitors to match.

Edit - tested delivery for the 55" to my location on Sunshine Coast, Qld - $40 flat rate.

Good price for the 50", I paid just under 800 for mine :-(

  • Hot price for decent tv. They have a better than the average product support also.

  • Any idea if this is good for gaming? Input lag/gaming mode?

Not good for gaming too much motion lag

  • Note that Hisense warranty terms are you will receive a refurbished TV, not a new one, should yours require replacement. We fitted them to a certain bank doing refurbs and the failure rate has been not inconsiderable.

I've got the 55" TV, it's quite good. It's not ideal for gaming, but it does the job. If you're serious about it, you can spend a few hundred extra for a Sony. I'm not playing any competitive games at the moment, so it doesn't affect me. There's a few annoying quirks, but for the most part it's a really good tv for the price. I like the Android OS more than any other Smart TV I've tried, for the most part it seems to work well.

The remote is annoying. It's a bluetooth "air mouse". If you just nudge the remote a little bit, the cursor will come up on the screen. You need to go to the settings menu to switch input (from tv to HDMI 1 for example). The TV isn't compatible with any universal remotes that I know of, definitely not the Logitech Harmony. Picture quality is great for the most part, but on my set during dark scenes, you can barely see where the LED's are around the edges, which might annoy some people. This is a common issue, but apparently a lot of people don't have any issue with it. The default Android app for playing videos is rubbish. I just use Plex, but for local files I think Archos is one of the higher recommended Apps. The default audio sync settings are a bit off, turn it down to around 6 from the default 8 and that should fix it.

If you've got any questions about the TV, feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

    • I got the remote somewhat working with my Harmony 650, power on/off and volume definitely. See my comment below for more details

      • If your having sync issues contact hisense support they will send you out an update on a dongle card memory thing, that fixed my issues without any dramas

  • I own the 55". Purchased at JB for a good price.

To be totally honest, I think the picture is below average and if I had my chance again I would have put my money towards a better screen.

I guess for the size and price it is good.

EDIT: Picture quality when looking at team sports (AFL, Rugby ect) there is an 'aura' around the players where the green of the grass is blurred.

I've only had issues with picture quality when watching the SD FTA channels, but anything in HD, including sport seems alright to me.

      • Thanks. I'll check it out :)

I own the 50" version and paid ~$775 at JB for it. Overall I'm happy with it and I think if you can get it at this price it's worth it for: good picture quality, mostly useful "smart tv" features, 3 year warranty.

    1. If you're using this as a monitor you'll want to tweak two settings for sure, change the picture mode to "User" so that 1:1 pixel mapping is enabled. You'll also want to disable the MEMC (or something like that) which is the 100hz motion compensation. As many reviews of the model will note is ridiculously aggressive and ruins any sort of high speed video like sports or action movies. Disabling it can't be done while in "HDMI" mode (for some bizarre reason) and needs to be done from TV or Smart TV mode.
    2. Sound is a bit weak but I understand that's a common failing of the LED-LCD tvs (as they aren't deep enough to generate good sound.
    3. The air mouse is somewhat annoying and as observed elsewhere it's a bluetooth/infra-red device. Due to the use of Google TV you won't have "button specific" access to many settings, rather you use standard android menus to change between HDMI inputs. This has an impact on how easy it is to use a Harmony or other universal remote. That said I successfully programmed my harmony to do power on/off and volume which is all I needed.
  • Good deal. But postage is high to Perth.
Any price match/beat success (JB/Harvey Norman /Good Guys..)?
