  • Nice mouse with a nice metallic scroll wheel. There's no cheap-rubber-coating-that-flakes-off like my last Microsoft SideWinder X5 :P.

Got one from SE eBay during the last 15% off promo. :)

    • I'm curious as to what you mean by rubber coating that flakes off?

I've had my x5 for at least 5 years now and it's still going strong (and I sweat a lot on my hands).

      • Pretty much this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FNZfFm_u_o

Except that guy has it worse than me. My rubber's still on the scroll wheel, but it's cracked up and bits have worn/flaked off over the years. I've had to dig bits of the gaps between the scroll wheel and mouse, and sometimes the scroll wheel fails to register scrolling at all. @_@" The SideWinder X5 is a great mouse too, just a shame about the scroll wheel. :(

I'm particularly happy about the metallic scrollwheel on the G502 haha - should last me a while. :) I just miss the shape of the X5, since the G502 doesn't have the carve out on the right side for your ring/pinky to rest on.

        • Oh wow that is ridiculous! WTF? Thankfully I don't have a hint of that problem. I wonder what causes it because like I've said I have a sweaty hand problem and it hasn't occurred for me after 5 years of use. I've actually had a problem of wheel click not working a couple of weeks back but then after a week it just started working again.

On to the G502 since I'm quite interested in getting it but I'm more keep on the shape of the G602 from the looks of the images. Is the G502 much lower and smaller than the x5? What did you feel when you first switched?

        • I just looked closer at my X5's scroll wheel and its all cracked/flaked like yours. From afar it looks just like patterning/grip but up close its a whole different matter. However i must say its been the best mouse i have used, just wish it was a tad bigger.

          @fufufu:
It's smaller, but I've gotten used to it. Like I said, lack of a carve out on the right side for my ring/pinky finger was the first major annoyance. :P

Also I find myself hitting the top-left macro/reprogrammable buttons (default setting is for DPI switching) sometimes because of their placement. The macro keys on the X5 are on the right, and when you grip the mouse, your thumb sort of hovers in between the two. Whereas on the G502, you've got to move your thumb upwards to hit either macro button (as it's above your thumb's resting position when you grip the mouse).

From the height point of view, they pretty much look (and feel) the same to me. It's really just that missing area on the right side that I noticed at first. I also looked at the G700S since the idea of wireless/wired capability was appealing. The shape looked nice too with ample carve outs on both sides of the mouse… But I didn't like the look of the soft-grippy-looking rubber that Logitech had on the surface of the left/right click after my experience with the X5 haha.

Didn't want to be recharging or replacing batteries often so didn't look at the G602 once I saw the G502 had been released.

May your X5 serve you faithfully for years to come. :P One other thing to note is that the blue Logitech G logo on the G502 burns your retinas if you stare at it long enough. But I use mine more than I stare at it now so it's all good. :)

  • With shipping being free, this is a decent price. The mouse is fantastic and if I didn't have my SteelSeries Rival I would have bought this.

  • Would this be a worthwhile upgrade from a Razer deathadder? The grips on mine are starting to fall apart, only had it a few months… thanks

The G502 is a great mouse but I can't say it's a worthwhile upgrade because I have never used a Razer deathadder. The G502 has a nice rubber coating (as mentioned by WorkAround) and for me, all the extra buttons are easily in reach. My only micro tiny complaint is the free scroll for browsing webpages - it is way too slippery but can be fixed by toggling to the other scrolling mode. Other than that the mouse is almost perfect in my opinion.

      • cool, thanks for the reply :) i should buy one

I had the Deathadder (3.5G version) before and it has been worthwhile for me upgrading to the G502. Just note that the G502 is noticeably smaller and is also heavier.

      • ah k thanks. weight isn't a concern and i don't really palm grip so smaller is fine, so should be good :D

It has adjustable weights (but I feel no difference, so I put all the weights in to not misplace them) :)

$59 seems to be the norm, so you are saving on the delivery which is $10 or so..

  • Don't think I'm hardcore enough for a mouse like this. Too many buttons. I feel like I'd press them accidentally far too often.

  • Any idea when this sale ends? I need a couple of days to decide.

  • 12,000 DPS, who would even need that? I'm currently using 2,800 with acceleration at 1 (feels most comfortable) on a Deathadder 2013.

    • You don't even need 2800.

Its just the native dpi the sensor is capable of.
